Music icon John Lennon’s legacy is set to be immortalised on a UK commemorative coin by the country’s The Royal Mint.

The new coin celebrating the Beatle’s life and record-breaking career coincides with the year in which he would have celebrated his 85th birthday.

The coin’s design features a portrait of Lennon based on an image taken by rock photographer Bob Gruen.

It depicts a side profile shot of Lennon, taken on the roof of his penthouse at the Dakota building in New York City.

Experienced coin designer Henry Gray incorporated the portrait of Lennon to feature at the centre of the coin's design.

John Lennon’s name appears to the left of the portrait while the word “Imagine” features on the right side of the design – a special nod to the song and album of the same name.

To officially unveil the design, the coin was pictured in New York City, against the Lennon ‘Imagine’ mosaic in Central Park opposite the Dakota.

Beatles legend Ringo Starr gets a Sgt Pepper-inspired pink cowboy hat — to mark the fulfilment of a dream,.
The drummer, who has just enjoyed his first ever number one solo album in the USA, is to play iconic country music venue the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee next month.
So to celebrate, US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel presented wild west movie fan Ringo, 84, with the hat, coloured to match his outfit on the cover of the classic Fab Four 1967 album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
He will be performing songs from his album, the country inspired Look Up which soared to the top of the charts in America.
Earlier Ringo was asked by Kimmel to clear some facts about himself that were circulating on the internet and declare if they were true or false.
And the one that stunned Kimmel was when he asked if it was true the Liverpool-born musician had never eaten a pizza.
Ringo said it was and confessed he had also never eaten a curry.
He explained: “It’s crazy , you know. I’m allergic to several items and pizza pizza, you don’t know what they're putting in it half the time —and the curry.
“So I I'm pretty strict with myself cuz it makes me ill immediately.”

He explained: “It’s crazy , you know. I’m allergic to several items and pizza pizza, you don’t know what they're putting in it half the time —and the curry.
“So I I'm pretty strict with myself cuz it makes me ill immediately.”
