LIVERPOOL: 2008 EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE
Steeped in culture and with a rich history in popular music, performing, and visual arts, it is little surprise that the city of Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture 2008.
The city's most famous export is of course the Beatles, and there are a wealth of attractions and sites throughout the city all to do with the four mop-topped musicians.
The Beatles Story at the Albert Docks is a must for any Beatles fan. It is the only museum in the world that is entirely Beatles-themed, with exhibitions such as their instruments and other artifacts.
Undoubtedly the most famous club in the world, the Cavern Club was the birthplace of a music revolution that changed things forever. The club witnessed almost 300 performances by the Beatles and it was here that Paul McCartney played his last gig of the 20th century.
Visitors can also take a stop at Penny Lane and Strawberry fields, as made famous by the Beatles' songs.
Following a tiring day of sight-seeing tourists can choose to lay their heads down in either the Lennon or McCartney suites at the Hard Days Night Hotel - a Fab Four-themed hotel.
It's even possible to take a magical mystery tour on a yellow submarine over the river Mersey from the Albert Docks.
These docks are a tourist hotspot in Liverpool. Originally built between 1841-1848 as a prosperous working dock, the Albert Dock underwent a major restoration and has been converted into shops, apartments, restaurants and pubs.
