Barack's British Connection
BARACK'S BRITISH CONNECTION
As presidential candidate Barack Obama heads towards what could be a historic milestone in becoming the first black president of the United States, a branch of his family tree is following his progress from a quiet cul-de-sac in Britain.
His stepmother Kezia lives a very different life from that of someone who may soon call the White House home.
The 67-year-old grandmother lives on a Bracknell housing estate in the London satellite county of Berkshire.
Kezia was married to his father, Barack Senior, a former goatherd from Kenya who was killed in a car crash when Barack was just 21.
While Barack Snr, a Muslim, would go on to marry two more women it was always Kezia to whom he would return and was described as his one true love.
He married Obama's mother Ann Dunham, an American he met during a scholarship to the United States, before finally marrying an American teacher named Ruth.
Kezia and Ann became good friends and kept in touch by writing letters. It was a link that would become important when Ann died of breast cancer in 1995. Kezia would be welcomed at important family gatherings and was present at Obama's inauguration as an Illinois senator in 2005.

Barack Snr married Kezia in January 1957 and they went on to have three sons. The two youngest, Bernard and Abo, live in Nairobi. Bernard sells mechanical parts while Abo runs an international telephone shop. Their eldest son Roy mo...
