MRS . BODGER OF BERMONDSEY GREETS THE PRESIDENT
President Vincent Auriol of France and Mme . Auriol bestowd a unique honour on a 49-year-old housewife , Mrs Alice Bodger of the Grange , Bermondsey , London , when they visited her in her four-roomed ' pre-fab ' . The President and his wife were returming from a visit to Greenwich . Accompanying them in their tour of the pre-fab' and its gardens was the Mayor of Bermondsey , Councillor Edward Snowdon . Visits from the famous are not entirely new experiences to Mrs Bodger . Two years ago she was honoured by a visit from the Queen . Mrs Bodger has lived in The Grange for four years . For the last three of these , she has won a silver cup in the Bermondsey challenge garden competiton .

MASS PRODUCTION METHODS HELP SOLVE BRITAIN ' S HOUSING PROBLEM
Factory made houses built to provide a temporary solution to Britains housing problem are now being produced in large numbers, and already one hamlet of Prefabricated houses has been put up at Abbey Wood, a London suburb. These pictures show the method of transporting the sections of Portal Houses from a depot at Edmonton , North London to selected sites.
Photo Shows: Mass produced parts of Portal Houses in the yard of the Edmonton depot. Lorries drive along the lanes, picking up items from each pile, and leave the yard with a complete house, taking it to a site where it is assembled.

The first of the prefabricated homes built since Mr Duncan Sandys took over from Lord Portall has been occupoied by Mrs Mary Dyett , her husband and their 17-year-old daughter Eileen. Until they moved into their new home , which is one of six prefabricated dwellings on a bombed site in Thames Street , Greenwich , South east London , the Dyett family , bombed out of their own home , had been sleeping in public shelters. Photo shows: George Dyett and a friend carry a piano into the prefabricated home.
