An extra room for the home has been designed that folds away like a concertina when not needed.
Called the IWI cabin , it was created to provide one or more people with a dedicated space to work or relax.
The cabin’s expandable construction means when closed it takes up minimal space such as a backyard or patio.
The cabin expands to reveal a spacious interior that works well as an office pod for one or more people, a private workshop for working on hobbies, a tranquil escape for relaxing on weekends and more.
The IWI is built with electric and water hookups to help inhabitants maintain their lifestyle when spending time in the structure.
It has a cypress and plywood exterior, the cabin is built with double glass doors to maximise natural light.
It features cork and sheep's wool for insulation.
It is a product developed and patented by Ecuador architects Juan Ruiz and Amelia Tapia and their company Jag Design.
They said:” The space can be extended or compressed, depending on the needs of the user.
“When compressed, it behaves like a piece of furniture or a shelf. When extended, it becomes a living space that contains everything necessary to fulfil its different functions, such as office, yoga studio, relaxation space, workshop, meeting room, guest room, etcetera.
“It allows flexibility of use both inside, and the use of outdoor space (by compressing it), being respectful of its surroundings. “

A stunning whale- trailer that unfolds into a stylish and roomy mobile home, has won a prestigious design award. The Whale Trailer Cabin concept opens up when parked into luxurious living quarters. There is a living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom plus windows to allow in natural light and fresh air. The kitchen can slide out for outdoor use in fine weather or stay under cover for indoors cooking when the weather is poor. The space is described as generous enough for a family of four and comes with an opening the rear end up, nearly doubling the living space. A pop-up roof increases space and headroom. Chinese designer Hu Yong has created a curvy whale-like exterior trying to get away from the usual boxy caravan style. It has also been given a whale-like blue and white colour scheme. While the single-axle trailer won the 2021 concept prize at the Red Dot design award in Germany. It is now in the early development stages for production.

UK workers on returning to the office: ‘No point if I end up doing video calls’. Some welcome the routine, while others are concerned about how it will work without everyone in at the same time
Sweet deal: UK workers lured back to office with bonuses and ice-cream. Companies such as PwC and Goldman Sachs offering extra perks to persuade home workers to return.
