Jelly Babies And 26 Minutes: Secrets Behind Royal Wedding Photos Revealed
Official Royal Wedding photographer Hugo Burnand has revealed the secrets behind what he has described as the 'gig of the century'.
The 47-year-old father of four is responsible for the official portraits of newlyweds Prince William and Catherine Middleton taken on their big day.
These photos include a group shot of the bride and groom with their respective families - including the Queen and Prince Charles on William's side and her parents, brother and sister on Kate's.
Then there is a shot of the still beaming couple standing arm in arm in Buckingham Palace's lavish throne room, with Catherine still clutching her wedding bouquet.
Meanwhile, a group shot shows them sitting down, with Catherine's dress spread out, surrounded by their bridesmaids and page boys.
Unsurprisingly, according to Hugo one of the most difficult jobs was shepherding the youngsters into place.
Lord Lichfield, who took Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding pictures, used a referee whistle to get everyone's attention.
However, Hugo, who works for Tatler magazine, tried a different tack - bribery in the form of the promise of jellybeans and sweets.
On the whole, Hugo says, his aim was to crate photos that were ''effortless, relaxed and friendly.''
He spent months in preparation, which included discussions with the new Duchess, herself a keen photographer, who had definite ideas about the style of photos she wanted.
On the big day itself he and his team of six assistants cycled in from his Notting Hill studio because of the road closures.
They then spent several hours setting up, even laying place cards on the floor - reading Bride, Groom, Her Majesty the Queen etc. - so everyone could get into place quickly.
