A Kylie Minogue performance and a bigger fireworks display than the Beijing Olympics were the highlights on show for the thousands of celebrities attending the opening party of the Atlantis Palm Jumeirah resort in Dubai. Movie stars, musicians, models and millionaires were present having been invited to the most lavish party ever thrown - at a cost of GBP 20m - to launch the GBP 1bn resort on the man-made, palm tree-shaped island resort in the Persian Gulf. The celebs had been invited to this "freebie of the century", with travel and accommodation in Dubai all free of charge. They were treated to pop pixie Minogue perform a 10-song medley for 45 minutes on the beach with her 113-strong dance troupe, for which she was reportedly paid the handsome fee of GBP 1.5million.
