Haunting Photos Highlight The Ebola Crisis In Liberia
Kieran Kesner is a 23-year-old photojournalist who spent eight days covering the the plight of those infected with Ebola in Liberia.

His striking photographs capture the plight of the Liberian community, who can only hope and pray not to catch the devastating disease.

During his stay Kesner also photographed the burial teams and the MSF doctors (Doctors without Borders).

The current outbreak in West Africa is the largest and most severe outbreak of Ebola since the virus was first discovered in 1976.

Since the first case was noted in March 2014, there have been more cases and deaths than previous outbreaks combined; the diseases has already taken over 3,000 lives.

On August 27, 2014 Kesner boarded Delta airlines flight 2608 ready to begin his first international assignment.

"After four layovers, I arrived at the airport in Liberia. The plane came to a rough landing as it skidded to a stop on the decaying runway.

"Upon exiting passengers were met with an army of people rushing to take our temperature with thermometers shaped like guns aimed at our heads. I would soon come to realize these thermometers might as well be real guns pointed to our heads."

After washing his hands with chlorine, Kesner proceeded through the cacophony of customs where his passport was quickly stamped and he was sent on his way.

"Over the next week I would come face to face with Ebola; photographing the sick, dead and every stage of the virus in between. Realizing the severity of this epidemic that sets a country back after steadily making gains from the destruction caused by civil war from 1989-2003."

Kesner recalls when his taxi driver yelled out of the car window: "Why are they burning the bodies?"

He was shouting out to a young boy who was balancing a basket ...

This photo reflects the whole romance for me. I love to travel, I like to sit by the fire, to sleep in the tent wrapped in a warm sleeping bag, warming in cold weather to drink a delicious tea and enjoy the nature of our universe. After all, we and everything around us is a piece of the universe! This photo won third place in the 2016 International Earth and Sky Photo Contest
The beauty of the night sky, Russia
The beautiful colouring of the night sky from a high altitude is almost beyond belief.

Boris Dmitriev is a traveller, explorer, and photographer with a passion for astronomy. These photos are testament to his dedication for capturing and sharing the stunning views of stars from Russian mountains.

Calamantina and her four year old daughter Lopa who has cholera and other child sit outside the health clinic where a drip is hung from a nearby tree.
Calamantina says, "I have experienced death of my children from cholera. In 2006, three of my children died from cholera and now this is the second time it is here.
At that time my children started vomiting and had diarrhoea. After three days, one passed away. The following day, another passed away and after five days, my ten year old son passed away.
Lopa is still somehow sick and Iâm worried about that. Sheâs in a lot of pain â her stomach. When she goes to the toilet, itâs just liquid.
My other children passed away because there was no proper treatment like weâre having now. Iâm asking the Government to increase the work theyâre doing here to help my children. Itâs the Governmentâs responsibility."
Thousands Of Children's Lives At Risk As Deadly Cholera Outbreak Spreads Through Sudan
Save The Children has reported today (11 July) that Cholera is likely to put thousands of more lives at risk as South Sudan is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises on the continent,

The latest cholera outbreak in the Torit County is growing rapidly and illustrates how the highly infectious disease is quickly spreading throughout the country.

This is the latest outbreak of a disease that has already contaminated over 2,600 people and killed more than 60 since the first cases were reported by Save The Children in Juba on 15th May.

Cholera causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea among children and adults, which in turn leads to severe dehydration and, if treatment is not provided rapidly, ...

Home Alone Squirrel... Not For Long!
Sharing a room when you are growing up can be annoying.

One young squirrel thought it had the house to itself - before it was rudely interrupted by two siblings coming home.

Then the three found themselves in a squeeze when trying to get in and out of their comfy nest box.

Photographer Christina Haines took the pictures in her back yard in Spokane, Washington.

She explains: "A mother squirrel used one of my nest boxes to raise her young. In May of this year, I noticed that she had moved her young into one of the other nest boxes.

"She had a litter of three. They are a lot of fun to watch and photograph, especially as one appeared obstructive when its two sibling came back to the box and interrupted its peace.

"When they first start to explore the outside, they stay close to the nest. They appear to be playing going in and out of the box.

"Now that they are old enough they are out foraging for food. They would also bite the bark off of the tree and eat it. They eat the bark for food and to keep their teeth from growing too long.

"They will stay with their mother until spring or until she has another litter."

    Rust In Peace
Sitting 3,670 metres above sea level on the edge of the world's largest salt flat are a group of rusted locomotives that once represented the cutting edge of Victorian engineering.

Towards the end of the 19th century British engineers were tasked with helping build railway networks all over South America.

And when it came to investing in a good transport network the Bolivian Government relied on British expertise.

Today, Uyuni in southweat Bolivia is the gateway to the spectacular Salar de Uyuni salt flats.

However, it is also, and historically has always been, an important transport hub.

Towards the end of the 1800s the plan was to turn it into the main distribution centre for trains carrying freshly mined minerals down to the ports on the Pacific Ocean.

Construction on the railway began in 1888 and, despite the efforts of local Aymara Indians to sabotage it, ended in 1892.

However, technical and geographical difficulties and disputes with neighbouring countries, which ultimately left Bolivia landlocked, all took their toll and the full grand plans for Uyuni were never realised.

Instead the mining industry limped on until the 1940s before ultimately collapsing.

Rather than being decommissioned and sold as scrap the now redundant locomotives were driven 3km outside of town and dumped in the desert.

As the railwaylines fell into disrepair, the weatherbeaten metal carcases were simply left to rot under the hot sun.

Today these rusted behemoths form an eerie "train cemetery" - ghostly skeleton of a bygone age.

Owl Always Love You: Male Owl Tries To Woo Female
These hilarious images show a male burrowing owl desperately trying to win the affection of a female.

The female owl was perched in a meadow when the male owl flew over to her.

She immediately turned her head, which was comically caught on camera by wildlife photographer Steve Shinn.

Steve said: "It seemed that the female owl was doing her best to ignore the male, eventually he started pecking her but she continued to ignore him.

"The male started to get irate and puffed up his feathers in annoyance."

Steve captured the many entertaining and curious poses of the owls in Orange County, California.

He said: "Eventually the female turned towards the male but only to warn him to go away.

"The male continued to stay near the female."

Burrowing owls are unusual in that they are active during the daylight hours.

Steve said: "The large protected meadow hosts several pairs of burrowing owls who spend the day watching and hooting at each other."

Are You Nuts! Woodpeckers Make Hole-y Mess Of Tree
These woodpeckers make a hole-y mess of their local trees - storing up to 50,000 acorns in each trunk.

The busy birds spend their time boring holes in granary trees, before carefully slotting the nuts into the spaces - if they can find one the right size!

Photographer Michael Yang snapped the busy birds in action at Stanford University in California.

He explains: "I spotted a family of Acorn Woodpeckers hard at work storing acorns for the winter.

"They carefully pick acorns from oak trees and fly them to nearby storage/granary trees which sometimes hold up to 50,000 acorns.

"The woodpeckers bore holes in the trees with their beaks to store their acorns in. Some of the trees have so many holes that you can see right through the trunk and limbs! In some places, it looks like the tree is about to snap in two.

The acorn woodpeckers live in families of up to 16 birds, sharing the work of boring holes, gathering and storing the acorns, and raising young.

The woodpeckers spend a large part of their time inspecting acorns that they have already stored in their granary trees. The acorns get smaller as they dry out and need to be moved to smaller holes.

Acorn woodpeckers nest in cavities, often in the same tree where they store their acorns. They need to defend their acorns from other birds and woodpeckers.
