'Be yourself': Ukraine launches PR drive to attract recruits to weary army
Kyiv is trying out novel means to lure in volunteers after draft expansion prompted thousands to go into hiding.

Attempts to attract new soldiers have been stymied by widespread reports and rumours online over inadequate training, poor commanders and the reality of gruesome trench fighting. Only 35% of Ukrainian men said they were prepared to serve if called up, one survey in March said.

Billboards have sprung up all across Kyiv, with different army units painting a more positive picture of the fighting as part of the defence ministry's new strategy to make recruitment into the military more appealing. It sees volunteering as preferable to conscription.

Posters on the streets of the capital encouraging people to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces. “Be yourself. Choose unit and specialty” the poster says.

Fast food chain McDonald’s has caused a stink with new billboards — that smell of the restaurant’s iconic fries.

The advertising installed in the Dutch city of Amsterdam does not carry the company name but does come in the firm’s iconic red and yellow colours.

They also have strategically placed circular holes.

They contain hidden compartments with French fries inside heated by an internal ventilation system which also blew the aroma out through the holes.

The company claimed any noses within a five-metre radius would get a waft of the popular burger side.
