09.04.2018., Veliko Trojstvo -Dejan Jalzabetic was the first to bring alpaca into Croatia. The alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a domesticated species of South American camelid. Alpacas are similar to llamas, and are often confused with them. The two animals are closely related, and can successfully cross-breed. They are also closely related to the vicuña, which is believed to be the alpaca's wild ancestor, and to the guanaco. As their wool is the most qualified, it is also antiallergic and is one of the most respected and the most expensive in the world. Dejan Jalzabetic, who first started farming in Croatia, currently has about ten alpaca from Peru, Chile, and Australia and New Zealand. Alpaca is sheared in the summer, each giving 4 to 5 kilograms of wool from which, as Dejan says, she will produce clothing items like scarves, caps and dresses.
