Chinese EV car maker BYD is offering buyers a roof mounted drone configures to work while the vehicle is on the road.
It has joined forces with drone maker DJI have joined forces to create the Lingyuan, the vehicle-mounted system that costs 16,000 yuan / €2.030 euros with the drones costing extra.
A 30cm-squared slim box fitted to the car’s roof, which can deploy a drone from the car’s touchscreen.
There is also a hand held controller for a passenger to use or the driver when the car is stationary.
The extra is to be offered across the BYD range.
The quadcopter drone is said to be able to fly for up to 35 minutes on a full charge and at more than 30mph / 48 kmh.
The drone can be launched while the car with it is on the move.
It soar, track the car and re-dock safely providing the vehicle is going no more than 15 mph / 24 kmh.
The touchscreen can be used to take stills and control the drone’s camera or share footage.
Buyers are to be given a choice of two drones from the DJI range.
