Ndarja : un immeuble au design atypique à Tirana en Albanie
Picture MUST credit: Plomp / OODA Two stunning new buildings have been designed to look like a single high rise that has been pulled apart. And the void in the middle creates a square for people to meet and congregate. The development, called Ndarja , is located in the Albanian capital city Tirana and is for residential, hospitality, office, and commercial use. The “break” in the structure features a pool drawing natural light underground and linking the exterior to the interior. This open area integrates the greenery from the surrounding streets, the square and the balcony gardens, creating a microclimate for the neighbourhood. The ground and first floors host commercial spaces while the upper floors accommodate a mixed-use program. A premium hotel is on the upper levels, taking full advantage of breathtaking city views. The exterior will feature perforated metal sheeting to help regulate sunlight while reflecting the activity on the balconies back into the city. The vegetation was thoughtfully selected for its placement within the building, with species chosen for their resilience to wind and sunlight. September 11, 2001- New York, New York, United States: Former New York City EMT Bonnie Giebfried has been unable to work since 2004 as a result of a 9/11-related illness. Numerous emergency responders and others have suffered the ill effects of the airborn dust and smoke that enveloped lower Manhattan in the days following the September 11th terrorist attacks. Today, Giebfried runs 'Unsung Heroes Helping Heroes,' an organization dedicated to assisting emergency responders just like her as well as those involved with clean-up and recovery at Ground Zero. September 11 terrorist attack on New York
September 11, 2001- New York, New York, United States: The aftermath of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center towers in New York City. A total of four planes were hijacked on September 11. US Airlines flights 11 and 175 from Boston were hijacked mid-air by terrorists with knives who flew the two planes into the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York. American Airlines flight 77 from Washington was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon, and United Airlines flight 93 from New Jersey was hijacked, but its intended target, thought to be Washington, was saved when the passengers on board fought the terrorists. In New York, the damages caused by the plane crashes were tremendous. The two towers of the World Trade Center were designed to withstand the impact of a plane, but the fires were fueled by 91,000 litres of jet fuel, and the temperature of the steel core supporting the towers soared to 800C. Once the steel frame on one floor melted, the floor collapsed, putting even greater pressure on the floor below. Even lower on the tower, where the temperatures were not as high, the force of the weight of the collapsing floors above weakened the buildings' structures to a devastating degree. About an hour after the south tower was hit, it crumbled; twenty minutes later, the north tower fell. Thousands ran for their lives, and while five survivors were uncovered in the rubble in the first twenty-four hours after the crash, 2,801 died. A total of four planes were hijacked on September 11. September 11, 2001- New York, New York, United States: The aftermath of terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
