FEATURE - Tiger Hector und Harley plantschen im Wasser
Picture Shows: Hector, Harley
June 13, 2016
Pictures show Hector and Harley as they show their colours as they splash around to prove who is top cat in their family.
The rare Amur Tigers, only 15 months old, towered up on their hind legs and thrilled visitors with their aquatic antics at the award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The dynamic duo enjoyed a playful duel that sent the spray flying at the park’s ‘Land of Tigers’ reserve over the weekend.
Amur tigers are one of the most endangered species on the planet with less than 600 left in wild because of hunting and disappearing habitat in eastern Russia. But their numbers are climbing thanks to a global conservation campaign, which YWP, located in Branton near Doncaster, is heavily involved in.
Hector and Harley were born last March to parents Vlad and Tschuna and they carry the hopes of saving the species on their strong shoulders.
“They are big playful cats and have grown so much since their birth,” said Simon Marsh, Animal Manager of the innovative walk through park. “It is great to see their playful spirit but it is also important to remember that they are hope for the future of the species.”
“We are proud of the work done here at the park to help save a beautiful animal and hope that Hector and Harley can be part of the successful breeding programme that will introduce more Amur tigers into the wild.”
The Yorkshire Wildlife Park has been instrumental in raising awareness of the plight of the Amurs and helping establish a strong European breeding programme. Meanwhile, the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation charity has also been working hard, fundraising and working on conservation projects with the Amur Leopard and Tiger Alliance ALTA.
YWP brings visitors almost face to face with some of the world's most rare and beautiful animals. As well as the Tigers YWP's unique collection includes Amur Leopards, Lions, Giraffes, the countr

'Miniature world' ring designs, Germany - Sep 2015
FULL COPY: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/r4ht
A designer has created a unique jewellery range that places a 'miniature world' inside a clear-ring.
German-designer Isabell Kiefhabe spends several hours carefully creating miniature designs, which are encased in a see-through ring.
Isabell said: "I really like to place ordinary objects, that generally nobody pays attention to, into jewels. In addition, I add materials like gold-leaf, silver or pearls to make the pieces eye-catching."
In the pictures, tiny objects, such as an origami bird, a swimming scene and a mermaid can be seen encased inside a clear-ring.
The intricate work can take up to several hours to make one design.

Friends Fur Life
Meet the adorable duo who prove that you don't have to be the same species to be best buds.
5-month-old grizzly bear Bam Bam and 16-month-old chimp Vali love nothing better than a bit of rough and tumble together.
The cute pair live at the Myrtle Beach Safari park in South Carolina, where they and their parents were born, and have recently found a tireless playmate in one another.
Park owner Bhagavan Antle comments: "Bears grow incredibly quick and chimps incredibly slow.
"Recently Bam Bam got to be about the same size as Vali and we could see that they were just about paired up".
And when the pair were introduced they hit it off immediately.
Bhagavan adds: "We got them out there playing on a sunny day and they went on and on for hours. Neither of them wanted to quit.
"They would both lie down and fall asleep at our feet, wake back up and start wrestling again".
Now the good friends spend part of each day together in what often becomes a meeting of brains vs brawn.
Bhagavan says: "Bam Bam ultimately has more power, but Vali tricks him and can constantly get behind him. He will throw things at Bam Bam and run around him in circles".
When they aren't together Vali spends his time playing with his primate relatives, including his mum who is a chimp ambassador for the park - helping to raise funds for The Rare Species Fund.
This international conservation group has helped raise more than a million dollars for conservation programmes.
And while energetic Vali keeps active by helping out his mum, Bam Bam prefers a slower pace of life when he isn't busy playing.
Bhagavan says: "Bam Bam is an eating machine. He eats an enormous amount of food and likes nothing better than to sit around and enjoy a bottle or a bowl of sweet potatoes and chicken mash".
In time Bam Bam, who...

James Corden and David Beckham, British charity Sport Relief have revealed an eagerly awaited comedy sketch for this year's charity night of TV will feature football legend David Beckham, like he's never been seen before. In previous years, 'Smithy', a character from BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacy played by James Corden, has humourously 'coached' some of Britain's biggest sporting stars, including Jenson Button and the Manchester United squad. But this year he takes a well earned break for a night in with Becks - filmed at the five-star Hotel Principe di Savoia, where Beckham was staying in Milan. Away from the prying eyes of Victoria, the boys indulge in a spot of pampering. The full sketch will be shown in programming starting at 7pm on Friday 19 March on BBC ONE.
James Corden's Sport Relief comedy sketches
James Corden, star of BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey, has been filming with major sports stars for charity.

A friendly Macaque monkey and kitten, Kuala Selangor, Malaysia - 2008
Kaz Campbell, 35, came across a friendly Macaque monkey and kitten in the coastal resort of Kuala Selangor in Malaysia. She was amazed when the monkey started patting the kitten on the head.
"I must have spent about two hours with them," Kaz says. "They were playing together and really seemed to have a special relationship, they adored each other. It was surprising to see the unusual interaction between the two little creatures."

A 3D-printed robotic hand which can play simple musical phrases on the piano by just moving its wrist has been developed by scientists. The robot can pick out simple tunes a note at a time but is no virtuoso. But the development could one day pave the way for more dextrous limbs which could perform surgery or handle delicate objects. It demonstrates just how challenging it is to replicate all the abilities of a human hand, and how much complex movement can still be achieved through design. The hand plays the musical phrases by just moving its wrist. It was made by 3D printing soft and rigid materials together to replicate of all the bones and ligaments in a human hand, but not the muscles or tendons. The researchers from Cambridge University on the UK, found that a surprisingly wide range of movement was still possible by relying on the hand's mechanical design.
