A former Disney kids TV star has launched an app that uses artificial intelligence to create avatars of dead loved ones.
Calum Worthy, 34, starred as Dez Wade on the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally which ran from 2011 to 2016.
His company 2wai has launched an advert showing a pregnant woman speaking to an AI recreation of her deceased mother through the app to create what is called a HoloAvatar.
The video then jumps forward in time, showing the 'grandmother' reading a bedtime story to the newborn baby boy, talking to them as they return from school, and discussing the birth of their own child.
Finally, the video shows the woman making a three minute recording of her mother to create the digital avatar.
A slogan states: “With 2wai, three minutes can last forever.”
The app also brings an avatar of playwright Shakespeare to life as a learning tool for students, explaining the inspiration for Romeo and Juliet.
And a past figure like British Tudor king Henry VIII could help with history lessons.
The 2wai app, pronounced “two way” – is now available for iOS devices on the App Store.
The company has also created several default HoloAvatars, including a personal trainer named Darius, an astrologist called Celeste, and a chef named Luca.
OPS:The 2wai app brings William Shakespeare to life.
