RAF TYPHOONS TRAIN ALONGSIDE THE TURKISH AIR FORCE
An RAF Pilot walks out to a Typhoon FGR4 to prepare for take off with 4 F16s.
A Typhoon FGR4's and 4 F16 take off from Konya Air Base, Konya, Turkey for Exercise Tailored Assurance Measures, Turkey (Ex TAM(T)). The aircraft are based at IX (B) Squadron, RAF Lossiemouth, Scotland.
RAF Personnel and Typhoons have conducted a week of training in Turkey as part of a package of the NATO Alliance’s assurance measures to one of its key allies.
As part of the UK’s contribution in delivering on our NATO commitment of Tailored Assurance Measures to Turkey, IX(B) Sqn Typhoons based at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, spent 3 days exercising alongside the Turkish Airforce F16s at the 3rd Main Jet base, Konya.
Operating away from the home base offers a range of training opportunities for the aircrew as well as those in support roles; aircraft engineers formed the bulk of the detachment, but equally important were the logistics, ops, movements, security and media personnel all of whom had vital roles to play to ensure the success of the visit.
For the pilots, flying alongside other nations provides an invaluable insight to each-other’s tactics and procedures. During the week, each of the pilots got to fly against their Turkish counterparts in 1 v 1 Air Combat missions gaining a greater understanding of each other’s capabilities.
The Typhoons arrived in Konya on the 16th Nov supported a Voyager aircraft from RAF Brize Norton, which provided Air-to Air Refuelling for the 6-hour sortie across Europe from RAF Lossiemouth. They met with the advance party who had arrived a few days earlier, having brought in engineering equipment by A400M, an aircraft type which is also operated by the Turkish Air Force. © MOD / Crown Copyright / eyevine

Image of engineers working in a confined space in the engine room of HMS Dragon.
Engineers onboard HMS Dragon work in confined spaces in the engine room making sure the ship operates to perfection.
HMS Dragon part of a UK Task force, will visit numerous nations across the Mediterranean and Black Sea as the UK’s armed forces nurtures new friendships and cements traditional alliances.
In addition, it will allow the commandos to test and develop tactics using innovative new kit.
The deployment is intended to test new concepts of the Littoral Strike Group (which replaces the UK’s long-standing amphibious task group) and shapes the Future Commando Force (FCF) – the evolution of the Royal Marines into a hi-tech raiding/strike force – both of which are at the heart of the transformation of the Royal Navy as it enters the 2020s.
The group will also support NATO’s Mediterranean security operation Sea Guardian – alongside new patrol ship HMS Trent which is now permanently based in the region – and provide options for the UK to respond to any potential crisis in the area.
Known as the Littoral Response Group (Experimentation) deployment, the force includes the headquarters and staff of Commodore Rob Pedre, the Commander Littoral Strike Group, flagship HMS Albion, destroyer HMS Dragon and amphibious support ship RFA Lyme Bay.© MOD Crown Copyright / eyevine

Portrait of Chief Officer Engineering, David Mann at his station onboard RFA Argus.
RFA Argus is a Primary Casualty Receiving Ship of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. It has a 100-bed medical complex on board. She acts as a floating medical facility.
The Royal Navy plays an essential part of the UK's military response to support people affected by Hurricanes by providing humanitarian and disaster relief to the Caribbean Islands.
When disasters occur, infrastructure and resources can be crippled, with shortages of food and water supplies and a lack of basic services like sanitation and electricity.
Responding humanely to these life-threatening scenarios is central to the Royal Navy's ethos - we have the skills, know-how and equipment to make a real difference, however extreme the circumstances.
A self-sustaining, flexible force for good - even in the most challenging conditions – The crew will work alongside local emergency services re-establishing law and order, restoring water and power, repairing buildings like hospitals and schools, reopening airstrips and roads.© MOD Crown Copyright / eyevine

Image of a screengrab taken from a camera within an RAF Typhoon cockpit, seen here whilst flying over NATO warships operating in the Baltic Sea. Royal Air Force Typhoons deployed in Lithuania carrying out mock air attacks to test the defences of NATO warships operating in the Baltic Sea.
The RAF Typhoons from 6 Sqn are currently based at äiauliai Air Base in Lithuania, with 135 Expeditionary Air Wing, to primarily conduct the NATO Air Policing mission. In addition to this mission however the RAF are also conducting training activities and exercises with other NATO Allies and regional partners.
The Air Maritime training exercise saw the Typhoons being used to test the air defences of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 Task Force, commanded by Commodore Yngve Skoglund of the Royal Norwegian Navy in his flagship HNoMS Otto Sverdrup. The NATO ships were subjected to simulated air attack from high-performance fighter aircraft and air-launched anti-ship missiles.© MOD Crown Copyright / eyevine
