Obelix and Asterix Caganer statues, Traditionally styled 'caganers' - ceramic statuettes of well-known people defecating - are a strong Christmas tradition in Catalonia, dating back to the 18th century as Catalonians hide caganers in Christmas Nativity scenes and invite friends to find them. The figures symbolize fertilization, hope and prosperity for the upcoming year

It's that time of the year again when Catalonia embarks on its annual tradition of poking fun at the world's stars - through the medium of caricature statues taking a dump.
And no one is sacred or exempt from the faecal fun-poking: even Kate and Wills are pictured with their underwear around their ankles and a Royal steamer coiled up on the floor behind them, without so much as a throne to support them.
Other such loo-minaries include the Queen and Prince Philip, Barack Obama, John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger and the majority of Barcelona FC's heroes.
However, while these undignified poses appear to be denigrating these celebrities, the function of the 'caganer' is very much a positive one.
