Award winning landscape and wildlife photographer Drew Buckley recently spent three nights on the enigmatic island of Skomer off the Pembrokeshire coastline. The main draw to this small corner of Welsh paradise in summertime are the charismatic Puffins. Drew comments: "These quirky small dumpy sea birds are full of character and it's hard not to be drawn in to their own little world. "The iconic views of them standing with lots of sand eels held in their beaks are abundant at this time of year as they're busy feeding young. "Also, they're not afraid of humans as there's no ground predators on the island so happily walk past your feet allowing some fabulous up close and personal views".

These pictures show an otter chasing a hapless grey heron at Leighton Moss, Lancashire.
Photographer Keith Scovell captured the action in December.
He explains: "A Grey Heron roosting on the edge of the reeds paid scant attention to these playful mammals; that was until two Otters got a little too close for comfort. Little did I think that an Otter would have a go at such a large bird, but the Heron wasn't going to take any chances and flew away to what it thought was a safe distance. At this point the Otters disappeared into the reeds, only for one to reappear behind the Heron and proceed to give chase. The Heron took off again, and I think was inches away from being caught when the ice gave way beneath the Otter; a close shave indeed!"

Richard Bowler captured these stunning images of starlings on Aberystwyth pier on Saturday (2 Feb).
He says: "This is sunset, each winter starling roost underneath the pier, a lot of the birds are migrants from Northern Europe.
"The murmuration (proper name for the flocking) finishes around March time, until then it happens every night."
