Pictured is Pony Major Corporal Mark Wilkinson with Cpl Cruachan IV, a Shetland pony, in front of Stirling Castle.
The mascot of The Royal Regiment of Scotland who took up his role in October 2012.  In 2018 Cpl Cruachan IV was awarded the title of Army Champion Mascot and is renowned for his antics in front of HM The Queen.

The first Shetland pony mascot was presented to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (one of the historic antecedent Regiments) in 1929 by HRH Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll.  The pony was named after Ben Cruachan, a mountain in the Argyll’s namesake lieutenancy, and the war cry of Clan Campbell, of whom the Duke of Argyll was chief.  When the original Cruachan retired, he was replaced with another black Shetland who took over the role and named Cruachan II.  The tradition of having a Shetland pony continued when the antecedent Regiment’s amalgamated in 2006 – the current pony took over the role following the retirement of the much loved Cruachan III, who is interned in Stirling Castle.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland (SCOTS) is the senior line infantry regiment and the only Scottish line infantry regiment of the British Army. It was formed on 28 March 2006 and founded on the fighting heritage of historic Scottish Infantry Regiments; The Royal Scots, The Royal Highland Fusiliers, The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, The Black Watch, The Queen’s Own Highlanders, The Gordon Highlanders and The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
Today the Royal Regiment of Scotland consists of four regular and two reserve battalions, plus an incremental company. The Regiment’s Colonel-in-Chief is HM The Queen.

Pictured is Goat Major Fusilier Matthew Owen 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh Why does the 1st Battalion the Royal Welsh have a regimental goat? Our antecedent regiments have had a goat at the head of their parades since the late 1700s and there are many stories as to why a goat may have been chosen. The wild goat was once common amongst the mountains of Wales and whilst it did not quite achieve the status of that other beast, the Welsh Dragon, it was nevertheless regarded as a familiar part of the Welsh landscape and it was therefore only natural that our antecedent regiments should choose the goat as a symbol of ‘home’, a tradition that remains with us to this day. Whilst some stories have passed into regimental folklore, it is a fact and our great honour to have been presented with a goat by every reigning monarch since 1844. Why is the ‘Regimental Goat’ recruited from the Royal Herd? The goats from the Royal herd originate from Pakistan and India and it was General Sir Mostyn, Colonel of the Regiment of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, who introduced goats from the Royal herd to the Great Orme, Llandudno in the late nineteenth century. For this reason, the Royal Welsh has selected its goats from the Royal blood line that still exists on Welsh soil. When did the Royal Welsh receive its first goat from a sovereign? In 1844, Queen Victoria presented the Royal Welch Fusiliers with its first official Royal goat, and since this time our Regular and Reserve battalions have recruited a goat from the Royal herd In 1844, Queen Victoria presented the Regiment with its first official ‘Royal Goat’. Where was Llywelyn recruited from? Llywelyn was recruited from the Great Orme in Llandudno, North Wales on the 23 November 2015. Why was Llywelyn recruited? The old 2nd Battalion goat, Lance Corporal Gwillam ‘Taffy VI’ Jenkins, died in May 2015 after nine years of dedicated service. Following his passing, Her Majesty the Queen was informed a

The Royal Irish Regiment Mascot Wolfhound Conrí, Brian Boru X contact press office 02892 261123 07748  448988 or Brian Curley +44 7772 578303 Wolfhound Major Robert Moore with Wolfhound Brian Boru X on Giant’s Causeway Conrí, Brian Boru X?Shortly after the 2nd Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers moved from Gibraltar to Watchet, Somerset in 1971, Major Alistair Hayes, to mark his retirement, presented the Battalion with an Irish wolfhound. The dog was named after Brian Boru (Brian Bóramha) King of Munster and High King (Ad Rí) of Ireland who was born near Killaloe around 941 and buried close to the north wall of St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, after he was killed at the Battle of Clontarf in 1041. The dog's first handler was Lance Corporal ‘Tip’ Norris and when 2 R IRISH deployed to Bahrain, he and Brian Boru remained at Watchet to begin the dog's military ceremonial training. When the Battalion returned to the UK, and was tasked with Public Duties in London, he made a good public impression. There is no doubt that Brian Boru's appearance was an additional attraction and following the first appearance an elderly lady appeared at the Guardroom door with some sugar lumps for 'the wee donkey'! BBDepotHe remained with 2 R IRISH at Watchet and then Warminster until the Battalion moved to West Germany in 1974 when he was posted to the Depot in Ballymena (left). In 1977, Brian Boru I was 'pensioned off' and went to live out his days on a farm in Wexford. Brain Boru II was purchased from a breeder in Whitehead, Co Antrim and, although a beautiful animal and a litter mate of a ‘Best Hound’ winner at Crufts, he never took to life with the military. He went AWOL from the Depot and was never seen again. A nationwide search, reported on TV and in the local press, failed to find him. Brian Boru III - known as Shane - was 'taken on strength' in 1980. He spent all his time in Ballymena and was employed mainly with the Regimental Recruiting Team. He died in 19

Pictured is Pony Major Private Mike Cochrane with Pegasus V in front of a World War 2 Dakota aircraft at Colchester Barracks The Parachute Regiment pony mascots date back to 1950 when Pegasus I, a black New Forest pony, was presented to 1 PARA by the Lt. Ben Arkle. During his time with 1 PARA, Pegasus served in Cyprus before going to Egypt in 1952. He returned to the UK in 1954 and proved very popular in the Aldershot area, as well as regularly touring with the Band. On one occasion when the band was playing in Ryde, Isle of Wight without Pegasus in attendance, the public demanded to know where he was. Over the years a number of Battalions also obtained ponies as mascots.  One pony, Bruneval I in 1962 was serving with 2 PARA in Cyprus when African Horse disease broke out and was unable to return with his unit to the UK. He was given to 70th Sqn, RAF with an offer from Air Marshall Sir MacDonald to buy 2 PARA a pony on their return to the UK. It appears that Bruneval didn’t take to the RAF, he was described as having a temperamental disposition and often ran away down the runway. The decision was taken to retire him to Limassol Zoo where he grew old with two donkeys and a camel for company. On 11th November 1965, the decision was taken at a conference of Commanding Officers and endorsed by the Regimental Council the following day, that the services of Battalion ponies would be dispensed with immediately. In future there would be a Regimental Pony Mascot. This was to reduce the issues of stabling and manpower required to look after them. Sgt. Ringway, a Skewbald Miniature Shetland Stallion, took on the role as Regimental Pony Mascot. He was presented to the Regiment by the PRA in 1962. Following a successful performance at the Allied Forces Parade in 1975, whilst in Berlin with 1 PARA, he was promoted to Sergeant. The German Press and National TV were invited to the barracks to see him marched into the Sergeants Mess by the Band and Drums and given his new Sergean
