Prince Charles visits Christainborg Castle, Osu, Ghana
Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall tour of Africa - 03 Nov 2018
Built in the 17th Century, Christiansborg Castle originally operated as a Danish slave trade fort. With Ghana’s independence from Britain in 1957, Christiansborg Castle was renamed Government House and became the seat of the Ghanaian Government. In February 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo announced plans to convert the castle into a Leadership Museum exhibiting Ghanaian Heads of State. Plans to deliver this vision for the castle are under development, led by architect Sir David Adjaye. To mark 400 years since the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the United States, Ghana has declared 2019 as a ‘Year of Return’, inviting Africans in the diaspora to journey to the country.
