Georg Baselitz
A Confession of My Sins
exhibition at the White Cube Bermondsey, London, Great Britain
Press photo call
8th April 2024
Runs to 16 June 2024.
Reflecting on a career spanning six decades, ‘Georg Baselitz: A Confession of My Sins’ brings together over 50 new paintings and works on paper created by the artist over the past year.
Taking over the entire Bermondsey gallery, the exhibition features large-scale canvases measuring over 3m x 5m. Made horizontally on the studio floor, each painting records the 86-year-old artist’s movements, including trails left by his walking frame and the trolley holding his paint.
The new works build on formal and personal references accumulated over Baselitz’s life; he draws on childhood memories of his native Deutschbaselitz, a village in Saxony, as well as depicting himself alongside his wife Elke.
