FEATURE - US-Zirkus lässt nach 146 Jahren den letzten Vorhang fallen
January 14, 2017 - File - From New York to Wisconsin to London and beyond, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus has performed for millions of fans during its 146-year reign as one of the world's biggest big tops. The show, which is closing down permanently because of declining ticket sales, has its roots in a spectacle that began two decades before the U.S. Civil War, equal parts zoo, museum and freak show. In 1881 it officially became the circus that generations grew up watching and saw many evolutions over the years, most recently with its decision to retire its elephant acts. Farmer's animals star in Game Of Thrones TV series, Co Armagh, Ireland - 31 Mar 2015
It may seem an unlikely story but Game Of Thrones has, quite literally, saved one Irish farmer's bacon. Back in 2010 Irish pig farmer Kenny Gracey was struggling thanks to the credit crunch and the 57-year-old was in debt. Then, out of the blue, he received a call from a props buyer who had heard about the hoard of rusting farm equipment he had cluttering up his barns. She came to Kenny's farm in Co. Armagh to check out what he had to offer and just days later he sent a lorry load of items to the set of the fledging TV series. And it isn't just Kenny's collection of inanimate objects that have appeared on screen, his farm animals have become stars too. His rare herd of 'Iron Age' pigs and sheep can be regularly seen inhabiting the twin continents of Westeros and Essos. Joey the donkey, Suzie the goat, Yana the red deer and some of his plump red hens have also been used. Meanwhile, Irish wolfhound-deerhound crosses Murphy and Hennessy are all set to make their small screen debut in the new season five.

After wildlife photographer Christine Haines spent eight days watching a polar bear den, she thought she was out of luck in catching sight of them.

However her patience in the biting cold of the Wapusk National Park in Manitoba, Canada was rewarded when she managed to steal a few snaps of a first a cub, then its mother peeking out of their hole.

Christine explains: "I was there to photograph polar bear mothers and cubs emerging from their den. I watched a den for eight days in minus 40 deg temps with wind chill.

"The 8th day they both finally peeked out of the den at sunset. The mother was sniffing the air to check for any danger like wolves"

Boo the Pomeranian, named the cutest dog in the world, becomes ambassador for Virgin America, San Francisco Airport, America - 13 Jul 2012
    FULL WORDS: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/he64

An airline has chosen a cute new ambassador - a Pomeranian called Boo.

The six-year-old dog - dubbed The Cutest Dog in the World - has been described by Virgin America as their newest executive and given the title 'Official Pet Liaison'.

Already a worldwide star with five million Facebook fans and his own book deal, Boo took part in a special photoshoot with his four-legged friend Buddy.

The canine couple were snapped padding around San Francisco Airport and trying out the facilities aboard a Virgin jet. Hilarious pictures show Boo checking in, boarding the plane, trying out First Class and sitting in the pilot's seat.
