NEWS - Winnie Mandela im Alter von 81 Jahren gestorben
1991-1992 - Johannesburg, South Africa: Winnie Mandela during her trial for the murder of child activist Stompie Sepei. She was found not guilty. Advocate George Bizos to the left. Nelson Mandela (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was an anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black South African to hold the office. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid, tackling institutionalized racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. He served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Mandela attended university where he studied law. Living in Johannesburg, he became involved in anti-colonial politics, joining the ANC. After the South African National Party came to power in 1948, he rose to prominence in the ANC's 1952 Defiance Campaign. Working as a lawyer, he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and was unsuccessfully prosecuted in the Treason Trial from 1956 to 1961. Although initially committed to non-violent protest, he co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1961 in association with the South African Communist Party, leading a sabotage campaign against the apartheid government. In 1962 he was arrested, convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the state, and sentenced to life imprisonment. He served over 27 years in prison. An international campaign lobbied for his release which came in 1990 as the country was gripped with violence. Mandela joined negotiations with President F. W. de Klerk to abolish apartheid and establish multiracial elections in 1994, in which he led the ANC to victory and became president. NEWS - Winnie Mandela im Alter von 81 Jahren gestorben
January 23, 2014 - Johannesburg, South Africa: Winnie Mandela in her Soweto home in front of a painting of Nelson Mandela. Winnie Madikizela–Mandela was born 26 September 1936). She is a South African activist and politician who has held several government positions and headed the African National Congress Women's League. She is a member of the ANC's National Executive Committee. She was married to Nelson Mandela for 38 years, including 27 years during which he was imprisoned. They separated in 1992 but Winnie continued to be a presence in his life in later years despite his remarriage in 1998. A controversial activist, she is popular among her supporters, who refer to her as the " Mother of the Nation. " She is portrayed in the film " Winnie Mandela " by Hollywood actress Jennifer Hudson. The movie reveals her journey amidst the turbulent decades of her husband’s imprisonment. Despite her own incarceration and torture, Winnie’s fierce courage in the face of personal and political turmoil show her unfaltering commitment to her husband’s dream of equality for their people. She remains a controversial figure that speaks her mind about mistakes made by the post Apartheid South African ANC-led governments.
