  • BABY LOVE

When it comes to love, staff at West Midland Safari Park are well

When it comes to love, staff at West Midland Safari Park are well
versed in the age-old tradition. Indeed, love is lavished on their
animal charges each and every day, none more so than on their adorable
9-month old bouncing baby elephant calf.

Such is the mischievous character of baby elephant Sutton, that when
keepers proudly presented him with a single red rose to celebrate his
first St. Valentine's Day, he didn't quite know whether to eat it, play
with it or stand on it. After a couple of minutes the once beautiful
crimson rose started to look a bit worse for wear. That didn't stop
Sutton scooping up the rose in his tiny trunk and appear to offer it to
    his 23-year old mum, 'Five'.

Bob Lawrence, Director of Wildlife, said "Sutton is intrigued by
anything new and different that happens in the elephant reserve. As a
treat we have just started giving him bananas, which he soon learnt was
something much more enjoyable than just a plaything. After a short
while, he did begin to throw the rose around for a time so we decided
    we had better rescue it".

Sutton was born at West Midland Safari Park on 5th May 2014 following a
22-month pregnancy. He is only the second baby elephant in the world to
be born following artificial insemination using semen, taken from a
wild elephant, which was frozen and stored in a laboratory.

West Midland Safari Park has two female elephants, Five and Latabe.
They have lived at the Park since 1998 when they were just six and five
years old respectively, measuring barely 5ft to the shoulder. Orphaned
by the shooting of their mothers at a few days old, Five and Latabe
were hand reared in a private elephant orphanage near Pretoria, South
Africa, with countless others suffering the same plight. When the
babies outgrew the orphanage, new homes were sought, hence their
arrival at West Midland Safari Park.

    we had better rescue it".

Sharing their home with almost 150 pets, the Mintram family redefine the meaning of animal mad! Former lab technician Jamie and his wife Michelle, 32, live with their children Chloe, six, and Josh, eight, in a typical detached house in Weeting, Norfolk. What's not so typical is the fact they also share their home with a veritable menagerie of creatures. This includes a collection of 30 snakes - including a boa constrictor called Big Mamma - a crocodile, a monitor lizard and a host of creepy crawlies that live in the garage. And the other rooms of the house don't escape either with every one, besides the living room, showing traces of the Mintram's animal inhabitants. Indeed, the second reception room, the dining room, the fourth bedroom and much of the kitchen are given over to the non-human members of the family.

Six-Month-Old Arthur Is Real Child Star Thanks To Movie Spoofs
A cute six-month-old baby who poses with props to recreate classic movie scenes has become an internet sensation.

Adorable Arthur Hammond has evoked iconic scenes from hit films including 'Jaws', 'The Godfather,', 'Rambo: First Blood' and 'American Beauty'.

The tot relies on a range of simple props such as stuffed animals, bath toys, food and his own crib - as well as a little help from imaginative mum Emily.

The youngster's blog 'Arthur Recreates Scenes from Classic Movies' is attracting 50,000 hits a month.

And fans from all over the world are sending Arthur requests to act out their favourite film moments.

Arthur's 'acting' debut used a cuddly toy to recreate the scene in 1979 hit 'Alien' where an alien emerges from actor John Hurt's chest.

Since then he has replayed Mena Suvari's famous rose petal scene from 1999 hit 'American Beauty' - lying on a bed in his nappy.

His take-off of 1972 crime epic 'The Godfather' sees him lying in bed next to the severed head of a horse, which is actually an artfully arranged cuddly toy.

For 1975 horror thriller 'Jaws', open-mouthed Arthur comes face to face with a colourful plastic shark in the bath.

And his crib is made to look like a jail cell for 1994 drama 'The Shawshank Redemption' with Arthur sitting under a Raquel Welch poster.

Film buff Emily Cleaver, 36, an author from Oxford, said: "Arthur enjoys all the attention when he is doing the scenes and likes it when I take his photo.

"He is a very happy, smiley baby and he gets lots of messages, especially, from mums, saying he is cute.

"It is very strange how so many people from the other side of the world are watching my baby online.

"I think it helps that it is so visual. People know the films and can look at the pictures ...

British Honeymooner killed by a shark
A British man has become the second person to die from a shark attack in the Seychelles within the past two weeks. Newlyweds Ian and Gemma Redmond were honeymooning on the island of Praslin at Anse Lazio after getting married just 11 days ago when the horror attack happened. 30-year-old Ian was snorkelling just 20 yards off the shore when he was attacked by a shark. Gemma, 27, who was sunbathing on the beach, and other witnesses heard his screams for help and saw a fin sticking out of the water. A holidaymaker dragged Ian onto his dinghy and brought him back to the beach but he died later from severe injuries to his leg and arm. Ian's death comes just two weeks after French tourist Nicolas Francois Virolle was also involved in a fatal shark attack at the same beach. There is speculation that the same shark is responsible for both attacks.

Close encounters with polar bears near to Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean - Jun 2009
As these pictures prove polar bears can be curious creatures too. Many people dream of travelling to the Arctic to see the magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. However, it would seem that the sightseeing works both ways. While the human tourists gasp in amazement at the gracious polar bears the bears, in return, are just as eager to get a closer look at the strange two-legged creatures invading their territory. On his recent trip to the Arctic island of Svalbard wildlife photographer Andy Rouse was lucky to experience several up close and personal encounters with these amazing predators. In the first encounter a curious bear, hunting for seals, swam up to inspect the ship while, in the second, another bear got within sniffing distance after rearing up on its hind legs and resting its paws against the side of the ship.
