End of the booze cruise? Calais wine stores run dry amid pre-Brexit stockpiling. Day trips across the Channel rising as shoppers race to beat a no-deal Brexit.
Brexit stockpiling. Brits buying cheaper wine in France at the Calais Wine Superstore. It looks like there has been a heist in the Calais Wine Superstore, with some floor displays stripped of the box towers of prosecco, pinot grigio and cabernet sauvignon that are usually piled up to the ceiling. The wine warehouse has become a victim of its own success. Its “beat Brexit bonanza sale”, which included three-litre boxes of the South African red Namaqua being marked down to £3.99, has whipped its British clientele into a shopping frenzy amid fears Brexit would call time on their regular cross-Channel booze runs.

FEATURE - Bis zum Umfallen: Jugend feiert "Black Friday" in England (Bilder vom 18.12.)
Ahead of Black Friday London Ambulance Service offer first responder assistance to those worse from the effects of alcohol. L-R Beth Tomlin and Jo Pugsley.
A young broker who split his head open on the window of a kebab shop while out after Christmas drinks today said: "I'm such an idiot." Speaking from the back of an ambulance, he said: "This is all so embarrassing, I’m such an idiot."At 10.15pm, after a nine-hour Christmas cocktail binge with only a breakfast croissant to line his stomach, the City executive had decided to go for a kebab. He missed the doorway and smacked head-first into the shop window, splitting his forehead on the glass. His friends left him lying on the pavement, but a passerby dialled 999 and the ambulance team were despatched to London Bridge, blue lights flashing, on their first drink-related call-out of the night. As he was taken to St Thomas’s hospital, he said: “I don’t normally drink too much. I feel awful wasting the ambulance service’s time when they could be treating people who really need help.” Minutes later, another call came through. A student had collapsed unconscious on Westminster Bridge after a night drinking vodka to celebrate the end of term. She was lifted into the ambulance, where she was violently sick on the way to St Thomas’s. Emergency medical technician Beth Tomlin shrugged and smiled: “It’s been a decent warm-up for tomorrow.”

William C. Caldwell, III arrested while dressed as an elf after telling a mall Santa Claus he had a bomb, Morrow, Georgia, America - 02 Dec 2009
Hundreds of people were evacuated from a shopping mall after a man dressed as an ELF allegedly told a Santa Claus he was carrying a bomb. The accused man, named as William C. Caldwell III, stood in line to meet Santa at Southlake Mall in Morrow, Georgia around 6.45pm on Weds (2 Dec). Morrow police Capt. James Callaway said that when 45-year-old Caldwell reached the front of the queue "he told Santa Claus that he had dynamite in his bag. He said that two times to Santa Claus." Santa alerted mall security and police arrested Caldwell, who is described as 5ft tall and 108 pounds (49kg, 7st 10lb). The bomb squad was called in to examine three suspect packages found near Santa's grotto, but no dynamite was found. Capt. Callaway said that despite Caldwell's elf costume he was not part of the mall's Santa attraction. "He has no relationship with Southlake Mall whatsoever," he said. Caldwell was taken to the Clayton County jail and charged with making terroristic threats and reckless conduct.

What were they thinking? (5)
1301366 COM
Oops! What were they thinking (5)?
It would seem that even the most fashion conscious of celebs can have an off day.
The stylists of these dreadfully dressed divas were obviously not around when they stepped out of the front door.
If they had they surely would have uttered that immortal line: "You're not going out like that!"
When left unattended there's no end of fashion faux pas a star can commit when looking for a 'stand out from the crowd' outfit.
But then looking fabulous 24/7 is something not even the most dedicated of A-listers can achieve.
And navigating the tricky minefield of fashion can be tricky at the best of times and pure style suicide at the worst.
Your 'unusual' outfit can just as easily be feted on every best dressed list as see you plunging to the bottom of the reject pile.
All of which goes to show that not even the hottest stars are immune to the odd fashion disaster.
