The clerk reported it to police. Four police officers arrived from Third Precinct. One of them Police officer DEREK CHAUVIN, 44, kneeling on neck, for over eight minutes, of accused culprit GEORGE FLOYD, 46, who is handcuffed, lying face down on the street and was overheard pleading: 'I can't breathe.' asked for his mom. Pronounced dead at hospital shortly thereafter. Dr. Baker, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, listed in his autopsy that death was the result of a 'cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement sub-dual, restraint, and neck compression. Other significant conditions were listed as arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease; 11 ml of fentanyl intoxication; recent methamphetamine drug use may have increased the likelihood of death.' The report also states that on April 3, 2020, Floyd had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, but does not list it as a fatal or other significant condition. All four officers involved in the death of Floyd were fired immediately. Chauvin, was charged with with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The other three were charged with aiding and abetting. Trial is set for March 8, 2021. Floyd's death triggered worldwide protests against police brutality, racism, and lack of accountability.
