Race Charge Over Golliwog In Window
A woman has been charged with racially aggravated harassment after displaying a golliwog doll in the window of her home.
Jena Mason, 65, allegedly placed the controversial black doll on her windowsill after falling out with her neighbour Stephen O'Donnell.
The matter was investigated by police after his wife Rosemarie, who is Jamaican, made a complaint saying that it was a 'racial taunt'.
Mrs Mason and the O'Donnells live next to each other in Worlingham, Suffolk, with a shared road leading to their properties.
The golliwog was placed in a ground floor annexe window at Mrs Mason's home, close to the entrance to Manor Farm where the O'Donnells live.
When police were called Mrs Mason was arrested and later charged with racially aggravated harassment, which is an offence under section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
Speaking at the time she insisted that she was not racist and that there had simply been a "misunderstanding".
She added that she believed the doll had been innocently put in the window when she tidied up her grandson's toys.
The golliwog incident came at the end of a long-running disagreement between the neighbours over plans by Mrs Mason and her husband to build new stables on their land.
The doll allegedly appeared in the window days after the local council granted planning permission.

Someone wearing the same dress as them!? It's enough to depress any fashion forward starlet.
Picking an outfit already seen gracing the body of another is an occupational hazard when you're a celeb.
But when there's only so many designers looks to go around identikit stars are sometimes inevitable.
And when the inevitable happens comparisons are simply unavoidable.
All a star can do is cross their fingers and hope that they come out top of the frocks.
After all, it doesn't matter who wore it first - it's all about who wore it best.
