Roadkill Couture: Fashion To Die For
It may not be fur everyone, but rat skin coats, hats with wings and bird skull necklaces form the basis of one designer's new collection.
Recently Jess Eaton unveiled her unusual 'Roadkill Couture' collection at Brighton Fashion Week.
Her creations, which include clothes and accessories, have all been made from animals that have died of natural causes or been killed for food or as pests.
This includes a belt made from Marks and Spencers spare rib bones, a rat skull fascinator and a hat topped with magpie wings.
Then there is a jacket made from the skins of 50 white rats that were eaten by a friend's pet lizard and a hat made from a fox tail complete with pheasant feather wings.
According to Jess she made the collection to push recycling to the limits and ask people to think about the ultimate nature of sustainability.
She said: "Last year I did a show called the Trashion Show and this is a follow on from that. This is the ultimate recycling.
"It is providing food for thought by making people think about the way we treat our animals and what we are prepared to do and not prepared to do.
"Every animal has been killed for other reasons and I have salvaged what normally gets thrown away, for example every time I cook a chicken I save the bones and bleach them."
Ms Eaton, who skins all of the roadkill animals she uses herself, said she believes people have become desensitised about where their food comes from.
She said: "When you go to the supermarket and buy a piece of meat it comes prepared in a plastic box. But it was an animal that died and we have become desensitised to that.
"We have become so far removed from the reality of where food comes from and some people find it a bit uncomfortable to be confronted by death.
"But if you are going to ki...

Roadkill Couture: Designer Makes Bridal Gowns From Dead Animals
Controversial British fashion designer, Jess Eaton is set to unveil her latest bizarre bridal designs, crafted from animal parts.
The Brighton based designer uses 'ethically sourced' materials - mainly roadkill - to create her pieces and makes it clear that no animals are ever harmed in the name of fashion.
Jess said: "I never, ever kill animals for our designs and we wouldn't accept anything that has been killed for the purpose of turning it into a fashion item. What I do is take these animals, once their natural lives are over and give them an endless afterlife."
Eaton caused a stir in December last year when she revealed her second high-fashion collection made from cat fur, alpaca, seagull and goose feathers - and even a human ribcage.
Now this unusual collection, which has been designed exclusively for White Gallery in London, will go on public display for the first time in May.
Jess uses white feathers and whole wings of birds to create extravagant headpieces, which are inspired by films, fairy stories and books from her childhood.
Eaton's second collection introduced domestic animals and human bones into fashion and gained the respect and attention of Love Magazine who styled the pieces on Kate Moss.
When discussing her White Gallery debut Jess said: "I can't wait to unveil the beautiful and dramatic designs I am creating for the show. My exhibit draws inspiration from a range of dark and dramatic romantics like Tim Burton and Scarlett O'Hara and I have a spectacular centrepiece planned as a big surprise for visitors."
Jess launched her first roadkill designs in 2011 and her second collection will headline this year's Brighton Fashion Week. Her earl...
