'MERCHANT OF DEATH' CAPTURED IN THAILAND
One of the world's most infamous, and most wanted, arms dealers has been arrested in Thailand.
Former Soviet Air Force officer Viktor Bout, 41, who has been dubbed the "Merchant of Death", was arrested in Bangkok by Drug Enforcement Administration agents.
Bout unwittingly boasted to informers working for the US DEA that he could deliver millions of dollars in weapons to leftist rebels in Colombia, when they asked him for surface-to-air missiles, helicopters and armour-piercing-rocket launchers.
He was detained at the Sofitel hotel in Bangkok by a joint Thai/DEA taskforce following the culmination of the sting, which had lasted several months.
He could now face up to 10 years in prison in Thailand for allegedly procuring weapons for "terrorists".
However, the DEA says it will be seeking his extradition for allegedly conspiring to sell millions of dollars worth of weapons to FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebels.
The FARC was designated by the US Department of State as a foreign terrorist organization in October 2003.
The US charges cover the period from November 2007 through February 2008, according to a written statement from the US attorney's office and the DEA.
Along with the US, Russia also plans to seek Bout's extradition, while Belgium has worked for years to capture him through the international police agency Interpol.

CANADA'S ' HOODED TERROR ' WINS BY FIRST ROUND K.O.
Earl Walls, the Cherokee ' Hooded Terror', kept up a tribal legend and evidently appeeased the war gods-he knocked out the Austrian, Kurt Schiehl , in the first round of their ten-rounds heavyweight match at the Empress Hall, Earl's court, London, today.
Walls, a Canadian, kept his head and face covered until the fight began-the Cherokee legend says a warrior should not uncover his face before battle for to do so invites defeat.
The crowd roared when Walls, dressing gown flapping around his head, tore down the gangway to enter the ring.
