The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are about to embark on a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand with eight-month old Prince George.

And a luxury travel company is offering its customers the chance to follow in the Royal family's footsteps on a VIP trip down under.

The trip will cost an extravagant GBP 341,000 per couple and includes first-class flights, chauffeured limousines, a trip on a private yacht - and a GBP 10,200 diamond dummy for your little prince or princess.

Highlights of the trip include viewing scenic wonders by helicopter, exploring the Great Barrier Reef Islands by private yacht and dining at several of the country's most iconic restaurants including Tetsuya's, Icebergs and Marque in Sydney.

The schedule has been devised by luxury launches website VeryFirstTo.com and tour operator Bridge & Wickers.

David Wickers, founder of Bridge & Wickers said: "Included in the itinerary will be a selection of Australia's most wow-inducing experiences, from a performance at the Sydney Opera House to private guided 'walkabouts' in the oldest rainforest on the planet, the great Aussie Outback and the sacred Aboriginal lands in Crocodile Dundee's Kakadu National Park."

Customers will also enjoy private wine tastings and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney's Taronga Zoo, where the Royal party will visit the bilby enclosure, which is being named after Prince George.

Founder of VeryFirstTo, Marcel Knobil said: "If like Kate and Wills you bring along your little prince or princess, the trip includes a Tiffany's sterling silver baby cup (GBP 385), a Prada baby bag (GBP 781) and a stunning white gold and 3ct diamond dummy (GBP 10,200)."

The Soviet Era Cable Cars Not For The Fainthearted
In the steep valley town of Chiatura the public transport system is an engineering spectacle that, today more than ever, is not for the fainthearted.

In the early 20th century, after the seizure of Georgia by the Soviet Union, authorities were intent on building a functioning workers' town to ramp up extraction of Chiatura's vast manganese deposits.

As Soviet planners got to work on the requisite sanitarium and cultural centres, the issue of public transport within the gorge proved less straightforward.

Eventually, in an effort to conquer the town's extreme geography, a network of cable cars or aerial tramways were built to almost every corner of the mining town.

Traditionally, this transported miners from their homes at the bottom of the gorge to the mines that dotted the mountains, and was also used to transport the manganese from mine to factory.

In its heyday Chiatura was responisble for producing 60% of the world's manganese.

Today, while some of the cars have rusted away, seventeen - including the USSR's first passenger tramway- remain in service.

Most tramways in Chiatura use a 'jig back' system where two cabins are connected to the same haulage rope.

An electric motor pulls one cabin down, using that cabin's weight to help pull the other cabin up.

And, while mining isn't quite as prevalent as it once was, the tramway remains a vital resource for locals and the mines still in operation.

Silk production - from worm to catwalk, southern India - 2010
SILK PRODUCTION - FROM WORM TO CATWALK

For many silk - the Queen of all fabrics - spells luxury, elegance, class and comfort.

But for hundreds of thousands of people in India it is something much more mundane but infinitely important - a vital life line.

An estimated 700,000 people are involved in various sericulture (silk production) activities in India.

Half of all the silk produced in India comes from the region of Karnataka where a sub-tropical climate allows for year-round production.

In 2007-08 India exported more than GBP 400 million of raw silk, carpets and ready made garments.

In 2007 alone it produced 18,320 metric tonnes of raw silk, making it the second a largest silk producer in the world.

It is second only behind China, which produced 108,420 metric tonnes of raw silk in the same period.

While the difference is vast, India's contribution is even more impressive considering that much of its production is done using outdated tools or by hand.

Ultimately, however, poor technology and high production costs undermine the vital role played by sericulture in improving India's rural economy.

    The Worm

The Silkworm Seed Production Centre in Mysore is run by Professor N.M. Biram Saheb.

He explains that the Indian government pioneered the provision of disease free lays of eggs as a way of improving yields without increasing start-up costs

The practice means that farmers are provided with a steady stream of healthy silkworm eggs.

It is deep in the seed production centre where the 'work' of creating these eggs takes place - in darkened rooms where moths are laid out on newspaper in racks of plastic trays.

Powerhouses of the silk industry they may be, but in reality they are pale weaklings whose only purpose is to mat...

LOTUS' RETURN TO F1 GETS ROYAL SEAL OF APPROVAL

The much publicised return of car manufacturer Lotus into the Formula One arena has been given the royal stamp of approval after a visit from the Duke of York.

Prince Andrew paid a visit to the car company's Norfolk-based HQ and was shown around the workroom by team principal Tony Fernandes.

The pair have worked closely over the past few years and it was the duke who advised the partnership between UK Lotus and Malaysian officials at the beginning of 2009, which helped secure the entry and creation of the Lotus Racing T127 grand prix car.

His Royal Highness spent some time looking over the body of the new car and was introduced to drivers Heikki Kovalainen , Jarno Trulli and Fairuz Fauzy . He was also presented with his own set of commemorative racing overalls.

The duke, who was wearing a dark blue suit and beige tie, and who was accompanied by Norfolk Superintendent Malcolm Cooke, also wished the team luck in their first race in Bahrain next month.

He added: "Mr Fernandes and I had a conversation in the summer of last year and a number of things transpired in the succeeding months.

"I would just like to pay tribute to what we've achieved in the last few months as the new Lotus team. I've followed and watched what's been going on and I've been particularly pleased to see people form the UK pulling together in the endeavour.

"This is a wonderful venture and I'm extremely proud of having seen the Lotus team over the years, and its retirement and its re-emergence."

The Lotus entrance into Formula One was announced in September last year and the car built from scratch in barely six months.

Mr Fernandes, who in the past few weeks has been ...
