A Golden Dragon rides the escalator. Dragons bringing luck for the Chinese New Year go everywhere in Bangkok, Thailand including all round the shopping malls, even riding the escalators to get between the floors. It was quite a sight at the Silom Complex Shopping Mall to see a huge golden dragon walking round the department stores and taking a trip on the escalator to celebrate the year of the Monkey and to receive gifts from the shop staff.

Kim Wilde unveils a nude self-portrait created in 1990It has now been framed by John Jones and launches an online auction for charity via www.wildecancerfoundation.com. The benefitting charity is the 'Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal', where her sister in law Mandy Smith was treated for Breast Cancer. The Breast Unit in WGC came about because of a fund raising mission by Vicki Adkins MBE. Vicki's own experience with breast cancer led her to realise that a dedicated place for people to deal with such a traumatic event in their lives was badly needed within the QE2 hospital in W.G.C Hertfordshire. Vicki contacted Kim in the early fund raising days and she was very happy to help out at several events. Eventually when the unit was built Vicki asked Kim to design a garden attached to the unit - a private, peaceful space for anyone affected by breast cancer to go and take time out away from other patients and staff.

Kim commented on the self portrait - 'I called this 'Sunburn' and was inspired to do it after reading an amazing book about Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrera. I'd forgotten I had it until I cleared out a cluttered room, and there it was inside my old art portfolio from college. When I saw it I thought that it would be perfect to raise money for my chosen charity. It has since been generously framed by John Jones (London) who, frankly, are much more used to framing priceless works of art!'

William*, a 5 year old boy, being treated for cholera a primary health care unit in Torit County by Save the Children and County Health Department staff.
Afisha moves slowly and deliberately between her two children, William and Sarah, who are being treated at a primary health care centre (PHCC) in Torit County, Eastern Equatoria State, South Sudan. Afisha seems worn out, but is obviously still concerned about her children and is constantly moving between the pair and vigilantly monitoring them both.
The PHCC has been open in Hiyala, a rural village in Torit County, for several years. Afisha lives about an hourâs walk from the centre, and when her two children fell ill she immediately set off on foot with her 3 year old and 5 year old in tow. Her elderly mother also walked with them down the dusty, uneven road. It was the middle of the night.
Afishaâs experience is not uncommon in South Sudan at the moment, as more and more cases of cholera are being reported throughout the country at an increasingly alarming rate. This was also not Afishaâs only experience of this deadly disease. Afisha had four children, however tragedy struck when her four year old, and her two year old contracted an illness symptomatic of cholera. Unfortunately Afisha was not able to get treatment for her two children who sadly passed away due to the disease.
The times are changing for Afisha and her family, and many other families in the area. Illness is a constant. Given the lack of access to sanitary conditions or clean water, it is not surprising that areas like this are rife with diseases such as cholera. However, with the PHCC within walking distance for ...
