The arm of the law meets up with the hippies - two mini-skirted girls, with flowers tucked in their hair and bells hanging at the end of their bead necklace. Their answer to the young police constable showing the way out at Downing Street, is flowers. The girls had just been delivering an invitation to the Prime Minister to a "happening" at Alexander Palace. The happening is a Love-in similar to the happenings in New York's Central Park and San Francisco

Her 60th birthday, and a day of smiles today (Thursday) for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother ... Baby Prince Andrew (born on February 19th this year) chuckles delightedly on her lap as she sits in the garden of Clarence House, London. On either side are her elder grandchildren, the 11 year old prince of Wales and Princess Anne, who celebrates her 10th birthday on August 15th. The royal children were visiting their grandmother to present birthday greetings. And one of the Queen Mother's corgis is seen joining in the proceedings - 4th August 1960.

    Lunchtime in Central Park .

How do you spend that lunch hour? Those 60 minutes set aside during the day for for the office and factory worker , chairman and director to attend the works canteen , sandwiches in the park or the exclusive restaurant . In New York the millions of workers blazon a trail to their famous and picturesque Central Park . Summer or winter Central Park is the haven in which to spend that one precious hour . A hamburger and a cup of coffee at Joe's diner - then quickly to the park . If the winter sunshine deigns to break through the New Yorker's lunch hour is a blissful period of relaxation . And there is much to delight and interest the eye . A myriad of characters and events for the watchful . Suitably refreshed the workers are ready for the afternoon's spell of work .

Picture shows:- An elderly man standing and eating his lunch oblivious to the hustle and bustle of New York .

The Ancient Order of Purbeck Marblers.
The Shrove Tuesday Football Ceremony of the Purbeck Marblers dates back many years and takes place in Corfe Castle, Dorset. The event occurs on the date that new apprentices are introduced to the Company of Marblers and Stonecutters of Purbeck.

Crossing the road ; the apprentices must cross the road carrying a loaf, a quart of beer and six shillings and eightpence, in the face of stiff opposition. This apprentice took the easier way and used beer bottles rather than a pot. No spilling that way. With a bottle in each pocket, and a leg up to the window by his pals, he was the first apprentice to cross to the meeting house successfully.

The Shrove Tuesday Football Ceremony of the Purbeck Marblers dates back many years and takes place in Corfe Castle, Dorset. The event occurs on the date that new apprentices are introduced to the Company of Marblers and Stonecutters of Purbeck.

Successful apprentice, Fred Williams, holds another quart of beer aloft outside the Fox Inn in celebration. The last rite of the Ancient Order of Purbeck Marblers ceremonial induction of new 'free men' requires the candidate to cross the street to the Order's meeting house, in the face of stiff opposition, without spilling a quart pot of beer. Now Fred is a member of a very exclusive trade union, which is so old that it cannot trace its origin.
