They said: "That afternoon I was asleep and suddenly woke up from my sleep and looked at my watch and I saw it was time to see off the sunset! When I arrived I felt like a little kid, happy and fulfilled! An indescribable feeling to stand and watch and follow what nature means!"The 26 finalists for this year's Weather Photographer of the Year have been announced and the public are being invited to vote for their favourite. The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), which celebrates its 170th birthday this year, in association with AccuWeather, has put the shortlisted pictures on their website and people can visit photocrowd.com/wpotyvote to vote until September 25.The popular competition, which is now in its fifth year, has attracted entries from around the world.

The picture shows Sa Foradada Storm by Marc Marco Ripoll, 39, from Mallorca, Spain. The picture was taken at the Viewpoint Sa Foradada between the towns Valldemossa and Dei in Mallorca. He said: ÒI tried many times to catch a good lightning strike behind this rock called Sa Foradada, but every time I tried, the conditions were not so good. I didn't have the moon on the sky to illuminate the scene, or the lightning was too far away. This night I knew that a big storm was approaching Mallorca and all the conditions were perfect. I don't remember if the moon was full, but I remember that it was very big. This was perfect, because the moon was going to illuminate all the land and the sea and gives more colour to the scene. I chose my composition, and I shot many pictures until the storm fell on me. This is one of the pictures I took that night in Sa Foradada. To see the storm and the lightning that night was something amazing.ÓThe 26 finalists for this yearÕs Weather Photographer of the Year have been announced and the public are being invited to vote for their favourite. Baby rabbit reacts after realising it has eaten thistle plant, Suffolk, Britain - Jul 2015
If it looks tasty.. and it smells tasty... then OUCH!
This funny bunny bit off more than it could chew when it tried to nibble at a thistle plant.
Photographer Kevin Sawford snapped the peckish rabbit near Ipswich sizing up the greenery, before taking a bite.
The resulting reactions of the wild rabbit made for this series of hilarious images as it threw its paws in the air, contorted its face in disgust and stuck out its tongue.
Kevin says: "I had been photographing a family of wild rabbits at their warden in the Suffolk countryside over a few days in the summer.
"On this particular evening this youngster started to feed on the thistle plant. At first it seems content with its meal but then realises the mistake it has made when it bites into the prickly plant. Its reaction is priceless.
"The young rabbit soon recovered and was OK but had learnt its lesson on what to feed on."

Thousands Of Children's Lives At Risk As Deadly Cholera Outbreak Spreads Through Sudan
Save The Children has reported today (11 July) that Cholera is likely to put thousands of more lives at risk as South Sudan is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises on the continent,
The latest cholera outbreak in the Torit County is growing rapidly and illustrates how the highly infectious disease is quickly spreading throughout the country.
This is the latest outbreak of a disease that has already contaminated over 2,600 people and killed more than 60 since the first cases were reported by Save The Children in Juba on 15th May.
Cholera causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea among children and adults, which in turn leads to severe dehydration and, if treatment is not provided rapidly, to patients' death. The disease has now spread to many areas in the country, with outbreaks or alerts reported in nine out of ten States.
Children because of their age and developmental stage, are particularly susceptible to dying from the disease.
South Sudanese children are even more vulnerable as seven months of violence has forced 1.5 million people from their homes and brought the world's youngest nation, which turned three on 9 July to the brink of famine.

Tigers let injured vulture get away, Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh, India - 2012

The Merciful Tigers: Predators Let Young Vulture Get Away
These stunning images show a young vulture looking like it is about to become a tiger's lunch - only to be allowed to escape.
Wildlife photographer Santosh Saligram captured the amazing scene as three tigers looked set for an easy meal.
He took these shots of a tigress and her two female juveniles in the wild at Bandhavgarh national park in central India.
Santosh explains: "The resident tigress and two of her female cubs were cooling off in the water of the famous Rajbehra Dam area.
"Suddenly, one of the tigresses noticed something on a rock at the corner and both the sisters went off to investigate.
"They reappeared shortly, following a juvenile long-billed vulture which seemed to have lost its way from its nest and incapacitated in some way.
"Threatened by the tigers, it tried to fly but only managed to flop down into the water. One of the tigresses then approached the vulture from the other side in a curious way.
"The vulture opened its beak wide in defence, hoping to put the tiger off, which it successfully did.
"Slowly, it started creeping towards the bank and after some time, climbed up the bank and disappeared into the bush. It was amazing, I have never seen anything like this happen in the wild."

Yesterday I Took One Of The Most Difficult I Have Faced. My First Responsibilty Is To Enable British Industry To Compete. We Must Have The Most Efficient Power Industry Possible. Otherwise We Would Simply Put Up The Prices Of Our Products And Lose Jobs As A Consequence. British Coal's Decision To Close Pits Is A Very Bitter Pill Indeed. But We Must Be Clear About The Reasons Behind The Decision. The Plain Fact Is That The Corporation Had No Choice. Like Any Business British Coal Has To Sell Its Product. To Do That The Product Has To Be Something Customers Want To Buy At A Price They Can Afford. Despite The Massive Efforts Made By Coal Miners Up And Down The Country To Cut Costs And Increase Productivity British Coal Cannot Sell As Much Of Its Product As It Has In The Past. Why Is This? ...mp

Mop-wielding shopkeeper fends off three armed robbers, Rushden, Northants, Britain - 24 Jan 2012
*full story: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/ewgr* A brave shopkeeper fought off three armed robbers using only a mop. Dinesh Gorania, 50 and his son Kishan, 21, were shutting up their shop when a masked man with a crow bar tried to enter and demanded money. But Mr Gorania, who had been cleaning the floor, hit the man with his mop, forcing him backwards. The man, who was swearing and threatening the pair, tried two more times to get into The Premier Store in Rushden, Northants, but Mr Gorania repeatedly hit him with the mop. Kishan then grabbed a hockey stick to help keep the man away. Two other masked men with crowbars then got out of a car and threw a metal bar at Mr Gorania, which he managed to block with his arm. The defeated men then got back in the car empty-handed, but smashed the shop window and the windows of Mr Gorania's van and Kishan's car as they left.

The focal point of many rural towns is the Hotel. Not only is accommodation available here, but most double as the local pub offering meals and of course something to quench your thirst.
A lot of the buildings to be seen in the rural towns in Queensland still retain much of the same charm and character as when they were built, and for many this would have been over 100 years ago. Australia

Sea otter diving for and eating crab, Elkhorn Slough, Moss Landing, California, America - Nov 2011

Urgh, Too Pinchy! Otter Tackles Crab Lunch
Grabbing a crab lunch can be tricky when you are only blessed with small paws.
This California sea otter looked as if it had eaten something it didn't like as it tackled the pincers.
But the marine mammal knew exactly how to minimise the nasty nips from it's blue crab prey - it simply flipped the alive-and-kicking crustaceans onto their backs.
Photographer Michael Yang spotted the fascinating feeding display at Moss Landing in California on Saturday (12 Nov).
Michael explains: "The sea otter would disappear underwater for up to a minute at a time and come up with one or two crabs.
"It would bite off the legs and chew on the shell to get to the meat inside. The shell must have been hard because I was able to hear the crunching as the otter chewed.
"Unlike with mussels and clams, where sea otters typically use tools such as rocks to break open the shells to get to the meat inside, this sea otter was using only its paws and teeth with the crab.
"It would also rip the top shell of the crab off, using its paws to hold onto the crab's body and teeth to grab onto the top shell. Once this was done, it would have access to the meat inside the body.
"If the otter came up with two crabs, it would float on its back and place one of the crabs on its stomach while dining on the other crab. Since the crabs were still alive (I was able to see the legs of the crabs flailing), the otter would flip the crabs upside down so they would not be able to crawl away.
"Once, a crab was able to right himself and started to crawl back into the water. But just before it reached the edge of the otter's stomach towards freedom, the...
