They look like creatures from another planet, but these weird specimens are all marine life captured by talented underwater photographer Kei Nomiyama.
In his photo series Blackwater, the 36-year-old presents the amazing creatures discovered in the sea at night.
His work includes the quirky sight of a 'jellyfish rider', a lobster larvae hitching a ride on a hapless jellyfish, and the Phronima Sedentaria, a species of amphipod crustacean, that Kei says reminds him of the sci-fi film 'Aliens'.
Kei explains: "I live in Matsuyama city at Shikoku island, smallest of the four main islands in Japan. I mainly take these photos at Omi-island in Yamaguchi-prefecture. The Omi-island is located in the south of the main island of Japan and facing the Sea of Japan.

Justin Bieber forks over millions of dollars on a glass mansion
Beverly Hills, CA - Justin Bieber has just moved into a new, ultra-modern Beverly Hills mansion designed by Ed Niles, deemed the "Beverly Hills Glass House." The 6 bedroom, 7 bathroom bachelor pad is costing the "Beauty and the Beat" singer a whopping $59,000 a month. The place is quite the step up from his $7.2 million Calabasas home which he sold to Khloe Kardashian earlier this year--the 7,500 square foot glass house has a 7-car garage, infinity pool and sits on an acre of property.

Behind The Scenes at Kate's Royal Baby Shower
Typically they're an American affair, but baby showers are becoming ever more popular in Britain and it would seem that even the Duchess of Cambridge is getting in on the trend!
Or is she? Catherine is spotted surrounded by the important women in her life - including mother Carole, sister Pippa and her grandmother-in-law the Queen.
Cradling her baby bump she happily unwraps a host of pressies as Camilla Duchess of Cornwall cuddles a corgi and Her Majesty scoffs a cupcake.
Meanwhile, the guests all toast the upcoming arrival with a glass of alcohol-free Shloer. However, take a closer look and the secret behind the baby shower is revealed - they're all lookalikes.
The images are the work of Alison Jackson who is renowned for her elaborate and often believable 'spoof' productions, which give an imaginary behind-the-scenes insight into the world of celebrities and Royals

Streets Ahead: Amazing 3D Pavement Art
Streets Ahead: Amazing 3D Pavement Art
From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles escaping from the sewer at London's Southbank to a Royal Wedding in Sweden this stunning 3D street art is probably the best on the planet.
Thanks to skilled British artists Joe Hill and Max Lowry pedestrians have had a whole host of dangers to negotiate as they go about their business.
For the past eight years the talented twosome have brought their 3D art skills to pavements all around the globe - with jaw-dropping results - raging waterfalls, a record-breaking crevasse and the legendary Loch Ness monster.
Since Max tragically passed away in 2010, Joe decided to continue their work, keeping the name 3D Joe and Max in Max's memory.
His latest work includes a giant beanstalk bursting through the pavement to celebrate the release of Jack The Giant Slayer, which opens in cinemas today (March 22), extending The Solaris Building in Singapore by four levels and building a futuristic city for Motorola in London and Barcelona.
Not only do these incredible chalk drawings look realistic by themselves - but when passers-by jump into the scene they take on a life of their own.
Press Officer for 3D Joe and Max, Lucy Pratt said: "We usually use chalk to 'map out' the picture and then use paint after, the illusion is created through a camera lens.
"Sometimes an intricately detailed large-scale drawing can take up to seven days to complete, sometimes longer depending on the weather.
"Our standard size is 6 meters x 3 meters and these take, on average three to four days."
Their eye-catching creations are often created for live events, marketing campaigns, music videos and TV commercials.

Marble fired through a glass swan filled with red liquid
Impressive Shots: Alan Sailer's High Speed Photography
What an impressive shot!
Alan Sailer creates amazing images of everyday items being hit by projectiles.
Using high-speed photography, he can capture in stunning detail the moment items such as marbles and pellets pass through objects.
The jaw-dropping results include a pellet shredding three cigarettes, a marble destroying an ice cream cone and the shooting of stacks of staples.
Other targeted highlights include cans of drink, ice lollies, a cherry pie and a tub of cream cheese.
Based in Camarillo, California, the 56-year-old is a microwave engineer by day, but pursues his hobby in his garage in the evening.
Getting the shots is all in the timing. Alan opens the shutter on his camera on a one second exposure with one hand, while firing the rifle or air cannon with the other. A powerful flash is triggered when the projectile passes through a laser beam.
His set-up allows him the option to not only fire pellets and marbles at 500ft per second, but items such as Christmas ornaments filled with coloured gelatine.
Alan began his hobby after building his own 20,000 volt microsecond flash in 2008. He was encouraged when an image he took of a pellet being split by a razor blade caused a stir online.
"I was very surprised at the reaction to the razor blade splitting the pellet shot. It has had over 270,000 views and made me a little famous. The shot scared me, I didn't know if pieces of razor blade would come flying out."
Contrary to the destructive nature of his work, Alan isn't a fan of firearms.
He explains: "Bye the bye, I don't like guns as some people seem to think from the photos. It just that the only way to get great high speed photos is to photograph something going at high spee...

Royal Wedding: Buckingham Palace Preparations
With just a matter of weeks to go preparations for the marriage of Prince William to Catherine Middleton are well underway.
Staff at Buckingham Palace are already getting ready for the reception that will take place after the nuptials on 29 April.
On the big day the Palace's state rooms will play host to an afternoon reception after the ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
This will be followed in the evening by a more intimate dinner and dance for 300 friends of the royal couple.
The action will take place in the Palace's west wing with the white drawing room, the music room, the blue drawing room and the state dining room all being utilised.
Meanwhile, the official multi-tiered wedding cake is expected to be on display in the nearby picture gallery.
In order to have the palace looking its best for the events staff are working hard to display it at its finest.
For example, the palace's greatest art will be on display, with masterpieces by the likes of Canaletto, Rembrandt and Rubens.
According to Edward Griffiths, Deputy Master of the Household, palace staff are used to hosting big events and cater to roughly 50,000 guests a year.
He said 60 people will be working at the afternoon reception, doing everything from opening car doors for guests to serving them canapes and drinks.
Meanwhile, guests will also sit down to a feast prepared by the Palace kitchens.
Head chef Mark Flanagan and his 21-strong team will be responsible for catering to the 600 people invited to the afternoon reception.
Details about the food selection and the wine list are being kept a secret but it is said that the food will show off "the best of British produce."

Pelican tries to swallow a glass bottle after mistaking it for a fish, Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia - 28 Nov 2010

Peckish Pelican's Gotta Whole Lotta Bottle
This confused pelican bit off more than it could chew when it plucked an empty beer bottle from the water thinking it was a tasty fish.
While its friends were enjoying scraps thrown to them from boats, the bungling bird had its beak around a much less appetising meal.
But instead of realising its mistake it battled on with the bottle, attempting to swallow it whole.
The bizarre spectacle was captured by Mary Trebilco as she holidayed in Batemans Bay in New South Wales, Australia.
The 56-year-old administration worker said the bird appeared to be fascinated with the bottle's shiny exterior.
She said: "I had taken a stroll in the hope of seeing the pelicans come in for lunch.
"They were perched atop some street lights as they all waited for the boat to arrive.
"Then, when the filleted fish are eventually thrown overboard, the birds flock in from every direction. They all try to get the choicest fillets.
"I was enjoying watching all of this when I noticed one of the birds was trying to swallow a green bottle.
"I think he was attracted by the shine and colour, although I don't know why because fish don't usually come in bright green."
Mary, from Tasmania, added: "He dropped it from his mouth but managed to pick it up again and seemed content to let it nestle in his bill for a while.
"I'm fairly certain he wouldn't have been able to swallow it - at least I hope he couldn't."
The diet of a pelican consists mainly of fish but they have also been known to feed on crustaceans, tadpoles and turtles.
When these are scarce the bird has been known to eat ducklings, pigeons and even seagulls.
The pelican's bill is large enough to store up to 13 litres of water. The bird uses it to detect fish underwater.
