Kim Jong Un gives field guidance to a newly built scientists residential district, North Korea - Oct 2014
In one photo he has a packet of ten cigarettes and an ashtray. Still smoking but clearly feeling the pinch financially. "Our scientists are patriots who are devoting all their lives to building a rich and powerful nation," he was quoted as saying. Kim was pictured walking with the aid of a black cane, lending weight to the theory that he has been receiving treatment for a leg injury or illness that has affected his ability to walk unaided. It was Kim's first public appearance since 3 September, when he attended a concert with his wife. The report did not say on which day the visits took place.
Kim's prolonged absence from public view had sparked intense debate about the state of his health and of his grip on power in what remains one of the world's poorest and most isolated countries. Kim, 31, missed a key political anniversary last Friday, as well as a recent session of the country's parliament.

Thousands Of Children's Lives At Risk As Deadly Cholera Outbreak Spreads Through Sudan
Save The Children has reported today (11 July) that Cholera is likely to put thousands of more lives at risk as South Sudan is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises on the continent,
The latest cholera outbreak in the Torit County is growing rapidly and illustrates how the highly infectious disease is quickly spreading throughout the country.
This is the latest outbreak of a disease that has already contaminated over 2,600 people and killed more than 60 since the first cases were reported by Save The Children in Juba on 15th May.
Cholera causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea among children and adults, which in turn leads to severe dehydration and, if treatment is not provided rapidly, to patients' death. The disease has now spread to many areas in the country, with outbreaks or alerts reported in nine out of ten States.
Children because of their age and developmental stage, are particularly susceptible to dying from the disease.
South Sudanese children are even more vulnerable as seven months of violence has forced 1.5 million people from their homes and brought the world's youngest nation, which turned three on 9 July to the brink of famine.

An adorable project shows the baby birds of Britain in the first days of their lives.
Wildlife photographer Gavin Parsons has worked closely with UK rescue centres to capture chicks bought in for care.
He has spent the last three years photographing some of the baby birds bought into Folly Wildlife Rescue in Sussex and the RSPCA Wildlife Rescue Centre West Hatch in Somerset.
Each year hundreds of hatchlings are bought to rescue centres either after their nests have been disturbed or when they have been mistakenly picked up by well-meaning members of the public after they have fledged.
