REPORTAGE - East London: Alltag in Hoxton
30th November 2017. Spotlight Hoxton. Hoxton is an area of East London, England and part of the London Borough of Hackney. It is immediately north of the financial district of the City of London. Hoxton forms the western part of Shoreditch, being part of the ancient parish and subsequent Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch prior to its incorporation into the London Borough of Hackney. By the end of the 20th century, the southern half of Hoxton had become a vibrant arts and entertainment district boasting a large number of bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and art galleries. Property prices have continued to rise steeply since the early years of the 21st century as property developers have moved to cash in on the area's trendy image, central location and transport links. Some galleries have, as a result, moved to nearby Shoreditch, or have relocated further afield to cheaper districts such as London Fields or Bethnal Green. Stefan M?ller, Owner of 7 Seasons, a specialist beer shop on Hoxton Street. It has been a fixture of the area for 2 years stocking around 450 varieties of beer focusing on independent brewers. The selection on offer is constantly changing & evolving with one of London's largest selection of German brews.

PORTRAIT - Wild Card Brewery in London
Price list at Wild Card Brewery.
London is seeing a huge rise in no-frills breweries with tap rooms attached, housed in disused spaces in the middle of nowhere. Like Walthamstow, and the Ravenswood Industrial Estate - pretty much the opposite of Òhot spotÓ. William Harris, Jaega Wise and Andrew Rickby opened the Wild Card brewery in this patch of nothing in 2014, churning out "no-nonsense, uncompromising beers". But this isnÕt just another craft microbrewery. When customers turned up to buy, they wanted to hang around and drink it there and then. A couple of rickety picnic tables and plastic chairs and a gazebo later, and their "beer hall" was born.

William Harris, Jaega Wise and Andrew Rickby opened the Wild Card brewery in this patch of nothing in 2014, churning out "no-nonsense, uncompromising beers". But this isn’t just another craft microbrewery. When customers turned up to buy, they wanted to hang around and drink it there and then. A couple of rickety picnic tables and plastic chairs and a gazebo later, and their "beer hall" was born.

A few lunchtime beers in a local Tokyo ramen shop
Incredible elderly people, Tokyo, Japan
"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter," said Mark Twain. That's certainly the case for some of Tokyo's older generations.
This fantastically quirky series documents an elderly trio in a hot tub after diving for shellfish, as well as a 93-year-old sake-drinking bar owner and many other lively nonagenarians.

eCool: invention keeps beers cold by burying them underground - Jun 2014

eCool: Invention Keeps Beers Cold by Burying them Underground
Festival goers will dig this - a beer fridge you bury in the mud.
The eCool is a new invention which sees you burying your favourite brew underground.
When thirst strikes it is just a matter of turning a crank handle and your beverage is delivered topside.
The device holds 24 cans and can stay installed the whole year, using the natural lower temperature of the ground to cool the drinks.
And because the eCool - short for Earth Cooler - does not use electricity, the Danish designers are marketing the device with the tagline "Save the world - one Earth-cooled beer at a time".
The company say: "Do something great for yourself and the environment. The earth cooler is intended for the man who has everything. It's easy to install in the garden or terrace, and uses no electricity. With the eCool you can always drink a cold beer with good conscience."
The coolness of the drink will depend on the temperature of the ground, which will vary on the country and season. The eCool maintains the same cooled temperature throughout the whole container.
The designers advise using a garden drill to prepare the 4ft hole for installation but say it "can be installed with a shovel as well, if you're a real man".
The hand-built eCool is currently available at a pre-price of $349 until 30 June 2014.

'Noodling' for catfish on the Red River, Oklahoma, America - 2012
Mandatory Credit: Photo by REX (3004304y)
Off Their Noodles: Catching Catfish By Hand
Traditionally, fishing is considered to be a quiet and peaceful pastime.
However, it's a whole different - not to mention finger threatening experience - when it comes to 'noodling' for catfish.
Flathead catfish live in holes or under brush in rivers and lakes, and the unconventional method of fishing involves placing your hand inside one of these underwater holes.
In theory the catfish will then latch onto the fisherman's hand, usually as a defensive maneuver, in order to try to escape.
The trick is then to push your hand down the fish's throat before grabbing it by the back of the jaw and hauling it out of its hole.
Though some noodlers wear gloves or take other protective measures, many don't and cuts and minor wounds are a real possibility.
Other more serious dangers include the loss of fingers and a risk of drowning, as many holes are deep enough that diving underwater is required.
In addition, alligators, snakes, snapping turtles and other aquatic life have all been known to take over abandoned catfish holes.
Noodling is illegal almost everywhere in America - because of the risk to noodlers and the threat to the fish population - apart from in 11 Southern states.

PicoBrew Zymatic and reference beers
Two brothers have created a compact home-brewing system, Seattle, America - 25 Oct 2013
FULL COPY: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/n4tp
Two brothers have created a compact home-brewing system ensuring beer enthusiasts will always have a never-ending supply of beer.
Bill and Jim Mitchell, based in Seattle, have launched PicoBrew Zymatic, a microwave-sized machine which allows users to simply add a handful of fresh ingredients and push a button to make a keg of beer.
It claims to brew 'high quality all-grain beer' in a week from three ingredients - water, grain and hops.
Once the ingredients are poured into the machine, it takes three-and-a-half hours to start the beer-making process and then the results can be left in a keg to ferment for a week.
The invention has more than tripled its fundraising target on crowd-funding website Kicktstarter.

Rihanna and Chris Brown : Merry Christmas!
Los Angeles, CA - Rihanna and Chris Brown enjoyed the Laker game all most as much as each other, court side on Christmas Day. The two shared popcorn and drank beers while watching the Los Angeles Lakers play their home game today. Sparks flew as the two laughed and flirted together, becoming nearly as big of an attraction as the basketball game itself.
