  • Grebes running on water by Rick Derevan
    DUKAS_183348709_SON
Grebes running on water by Rick Derevan
These birds are seen mirroring each other as they perform their courtship dance on water. Pairs of Western Grebes (brown feathers through the eye) and Clark's Grebes (white feathers extend above the eye) were seen performing the on water spectacle at Santa Margarita Lake in San Luis Obispo County, California.

Retired appellate lawyer Rick Derevan, 75, said,"When the grebes run on the water, it's called rushing. I can be a male and female boding, or two males competing. Sometimes you will see three or more rushing together, and I'm told there's typically one female in those groups. They usually make a noise before they start running, so I as the photographer get an alert, giving me a little warning. They move their feet very fast and the rushing is typically completed in under 10 seconds so you need to be quick to get good photos. Western and Clark's grebes breed communally so you'll see many of them rushing in the same general area of a lake." (FOTO: DUKAS/SOLENT NEWS)

EXKLUSIV - Miranda Kerr hastet durch den Regen zum Auto
*EXCLUSIVE* **SHOT ON 1/5/16** Santa Monica, CA - Miranda Kerr rushed to her car in the parking garage as the rain began to pour over her. The supermodel did not have an umbrella, which may have been a bad choice, as it progressively rained harder. She even tried texting and drinking her juice while she made her way to the car. She was wearing cat eye sunglasses, a thick black turtle neck, floral printed leggings, and sneaker wedges paired with a black cross body bag. Kerr was sporting a simple beauty look with filled brows, red lip and a low ponytail. Miranda Kerr is a former Victoria's Secret angel, and the ex-wife of Orlando Bloom, the two have a son, Flynn Christopher Bloom, 4, together.

These photographs show four adorable bear cubs climbing for safety as an alpha male approaches them.

Fearing for her cub's lives the mother bear urges them to scramble up the nearest tree trunk while she keeps watch on the ground.

The dramatic scene was snapped by photographer Lauri Tammik in woods in north Finland.

She explained that alpha bears have been known to kill bear cubs in order to mate with their mother.

When the female brown bear made a sound with her mouth her obedient cubs scampered to the top of a fir tree in the Martinselkonen nature reserve.

The 46-year-old from Estonia said: "The mother bear made a warning cry that danger was approaching and rushed her cubs to a tree.

"When the male bear came closer the mother bear started to snarl to scare him away from the cubs."

Eventually when the coast was clear the cubs nervously climbed back down in a circular movement but not before they had looked all around to check the predator was gone.

Before being disturbed the bear cubs had been play-fighting under the watchful eye of their mother.

The brown bear is the national animal of Finland where the scene took place.

CCTV footage catches man throwing another against side of moving freight train at Shrewsbury station, Shropshire, Britain - 27 Jan 2012
A man has pleaded guilty to endangering the safety of persons on the railway after being caught on CCTV throwing another man against the side of a moving freight train. During the attack in July last year drunken Daniel Worgan swung Robert Evans into one of the fast-moving train's cargo containers after Mr Evans defended some girls he had insulted. In CCTV footage Worgan can be seen plucking Evans from his group of friends and spinning him around before flinging him ten feet across the platform straight into the side of the train. Evans bounces off the side of the train and immediately hits the floor, only narrowly avoiding falling down the gap between platform and train. One of Evan's distressed friends rushes to his aid and helps him to his feet as callous Worgan calmly walks away. The CCTV footage helped to identify Worgan, who has now been given a six-month suspended sentence, ordered to pay GBP 500 compensation and carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
