The Burj Dubai is already the tallest man-made structure on Earth, despite being incomplete.

And these rare and exclusive images by photographer David Hobcote show the jaw-dropping scale of the project.

Mr Hobcote took the pictures from a helicopter he had personally chartered as a treat for his son. And his stunning images could be the last unofficial pictures as officials are expected to introduce a 3-mile no-fly zone as a precaution against terrorism.

Developers are keeping the final height of the tower a secret due to competition from other buildings under construction or proposed; however, figures released by a contractor on the project have suggested a height of around 818m (2,684 ft) - although it could be anything up to 950m (3,117 ft).

That would see it dwarf Taiwan's Taipai 101 Tower (509m (1,670 ft)) and Malaysia's Petronas Towers (452m (1,483 ft)). The spire - itself expected to be over 200m (700 ft) tall - will be visible 60 miles away

The interior will be decorated by Giorgio Armani, with a 175 room Armani Hotel occupying many of the floors and a further 144 luxury residential suites getting the designer's touch. Floors 17 to 108 will have 800 private apartments, which, according to the developer, sold out within eight hours of going on sale.

An outdoor swimming pool will be located on the 78th floor of the tower, while corporate offices and suites will fill most of the remaining floors, except for a 123rd ...
