A fragrance said to smell like a new born baby has been created by scent company.
It was created in Japan after researchers at the country’s Kobe University .
The smell, called Poupon Pure, is said to be the culmination of six years of research that recreates the newborn aroma with a blend of what is described as floral and fruity notes.
It is recommended for use as a daily personal fragrance and as a relaxation aid before going to bed or during meditation.
To create it, researchers with doctors from Hamamatsu University School of Medicine in Shizuoka collected scent samples from the heads of about 20 newborn babies.
From these samples they identified 37 scent components.
The main component of the baby scent is a floral-smelling chemical called nonanal.
Some researchers believe babies release it as a way to encourage gentle communication from their caregivers.
Testing this recreated scent on 20 men and women showed that it activated specific areas in the brain that evokes a pleasant feeling and the desire to continue smelling it.
Startup company Scentfest , a spin-out from Kobe University, is behind the product.

Two aquatic birds share a fish dinner on the water. The two birds - loons - could be seen passing the meal between each other.
The rare shots captured images of a parent loon feeding its baby with fish and insects. They were taken in a kayak by retired computer architect Matt Huras in his home province of Ontario, Canada. SEE OUR COPY FOR DETAILS. (FOTO: DUKAS/SOLENT NEWS)

Underground makeshift bomb shelters in Tel Aviv
June 18th, 2025 - Tel Aviv, Israel. Being a city with majority of old buildings that lack safe spaces many people opt to sleeping in makeshift shelters such as underground parking lots and the underground train tunnels during the missiles attacks from Iran. The misslies from Iran are massive and in contrary to the rockets from Gaza they can completely demolish a building when a direct or near-by hit occurs. In this underground parking lot of a large central mall in Tel Aviv organization Brothers and Sisters in Arms has set a camping zones with all that is necessary for a night's sleep - tents, mattresses etc. (Ziv Koren/Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)

Travel Argentina
March 15, 2024 - Buenos Aires, Argentina: A mother plays with her baby at the modern Puerto Madero waterfront with the Fragata ARA Libertad (Q-2) at the background which is a steel-hulled, full-rigged sailing ship serving as a training vessel in the Argentine Navy. The stark contrast between the poverty experienced by most locals and the luxurious yachts and skylights along the Río de la Plata highlights the divide between rich and poor in the city.In the last government's Argentina, inequalities widened drastically due to severe cuts and austerity measures, to the point where even the International Monetary Fund (IMF) might be envious. The percentage of the population living at or below the poverty line rose to 57.4%, about 27 million citizens. The primary cause of this deterioration in living standards was the government's decision to devalue the peso, which, alongside other measures, deprived much of society of the ability to access basic goods. Public spending has been reduced by about a third, particularly in the areas of health, social security, and education. In the heart of Buenos Aires, hardship, poverty, exhaustion and despair are etched in the faces of ordinary people. (Maro Kouri/Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)

Kalash, ancient tribe of Pakistan in Taliban region
May 15, 2024- Kallas Valleys, Pakistan: A Kalash woman celebrates at the Joshi spring festival with her newborn baby. She has just returned from the Temple of Hestia, where milk was sprinkled on the child. Kalash women participate in their circle spiritual dance, while men accompany them with drums and powerful songs. Some dance alone, holding a staff or a carved axe. The celebration lasts all day, stopping at sunset and resuming the next day, when they sing a song to thank the walnut tree for its abundance, holding its leaves in their hands. During the three-day Spring festival "Joshi," the Kalash women, sing in their native language and perform traditional dances. They honor the Greek Goddess of hearth Hestia, known locally as "Gestak". The story highlights how, in one of the most Islamic countries, the women of this small community retain their freedom wearing their own traditional clothes, dancing and singing in the countryside areas, surrounded by men visitors from all over the country. Kalash Valleys, located in the mountains of Pakistan, just a few kilometers from Taliban-controlled areas. Kalash is a small ethnic group, believed to trace its origins back to Alexander the Great, lives here in relative isolation. For centuries, invaders forced them into remote areas, where they fiercely resisted the Arab conquerors and their religion. The Durand Line at the end of the 19th century, which separated Afghanistan from India, the Kalash managed to survive in the three valleys Birir, Bumburet, and Rumbur of the eastern Hindu Kushrange, now part of Pakistan. These valleys lie near the Afghanistan border and are surrounded by towering peaks. With a population of approximately 3,000 the Kalash continue to practice an ancient religion, the origins of which remain unclear. Legend has it that the Greek god Dionysus founded a settlement in the region known for its festivals and orgies. (Maro Kouri / Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)

Timeless world of Ethiopia's Omo valley tribes
February 28, 2023 - Omo River's Valley, Ethiopia: Younger mother with her newborn baby and a lollipop! A Delicate Balance... The sun rises in the Mago National Park, where I met the Mursi, known for their elaborate ear and/or lip plates. As there is no electricity here, everyone has already begun their daily tasks. Many women continue the tradition of placing a clay plate in their ears and /or their lower lip. The larger the plate, the more attractive they are considered. Nearby, there are activists from Scandinavian countries trying to explain to them that this is a violent and abusive practice toward themselves and their bodies. Although, still the women’s traditional body modification remains a symbol of beauty and status. In the elections, the Mursi do not even vote because they are a nomadic population. Outside the huts, which are made of straw and mud, women pound seeds and cook. Around the large tree, young mothers rock their babies to sleep, holding them close, their hearts beating in sync. How do they live only on breast milk, seeds, the fruits of nature, the sun and the moon, the art of family and relationships? I want to know! (Maro Kouri / Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)
