Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane play Golden Gate park
September 28, 1975 - San Francisco, California, United States: Concert in Golden Gate Park with The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Starship. Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. Thousands of spectators, fans and Deadheads attended the free concert. The Dead were supposedly on hiatus, but when it was announced on the radio the Starship and Jerry Garcia and friends would be performing many thought the odds were good the full band would put in an appearance. The park had been the venue for many free concerts during the heyday of the Haight and the Summer of Love. Local bands, including Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, had all performed for free multiple times, but the Jefferson Airplane/Starship and the Grateful Dead hadn't played together since a Winterland show in 1970. The show celebrated the 10th birthday for both bands. (Terry Schmitt/San Francisco Chronicle/Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)
