365 (and 1) Handstands: Woman Doing A Leap Year Worth Of Handstands For Charity
Julie Durmont makes charity look as easy as standing on your head.

The Cardiff-based neuroscience student has vowed to do a handstand every day for year to raise money to build playgrounds in Uganda.

And because it is a leap year, the 26-year-old has to pull 366 acrobatic poses.

Canadian Julie, currently studying at Cardiff University, decided on the challenge after joining a facebook group called Handstand February.

She explains: "I joined the facebook group started by an Australian couple who have been doing a handstand challenge for a few years where you have to take a picture of yourself doing a handstand in different locations.

"While I was doing Handstand February, some of my friends said that I should do this for a whole year. My response was "are you crazy?".

"However, when the month ended, I was wondering "now what?" and also wanted to continue improving as I noticed that I was getting better at them.

"I decided I would only continue the challenge for a year if I did it to raise money and awareness for a charity that would bring fun to children."

Julie found the charity East African Playgrounds online and decided it perfectly matched her ideal cause.

"I believe that every child deserves a fun and safe play space, so I Googled "building playgrounds for underprivileged children" and East African Playgrounds popped up."

East African Playgrounds, a charity started by University of Leeds graduates Carla Powell and Tom Gill, provide high quality, safe and fun playgrounds and play spaces across East Africa. Founded in 2009, the charity has so far built 12 playgrounds giving 6,000 children safe spaces to have fun.

Tom says: "Julie's handstand challenge is a fantastic example of how one person is trying to hel...

    What were they thinking? (6)

Oops! What were they thinking (6)?

It would seem that even the most fashion conscious of celebs can have an off day.

The stylists of these dreadfully dressed divas were obviously not around when they stepped out of the front door.

If they had they surely would have uttered that immortal line: "You're not going out like that!"

When left unattended there's no end of fashion faux pas a star can commit when looking for a 'stand out from the crowd' outfit.

But then looking fabulous 24/7 is something not even the most dedicated of A-listers can achieve.

And navigating the tricky minefield of fashion can be tricky at the best of times and pure style suicide at the worst.

Your 'unusual' outfit can just as easily be feted on every best dressed list as see you plunging to the bottom of the reject pile.

All of which goes to show that not even the hottest stars are immune to the odd fashion disaster.

BIKING BOXER IS HOUND OF THE HARLEY

Biking boxer Slobber is living life in the fast lane on the back of his owner's Harley-Davidson.

The hairy hound got a taste for life on two wheels rather than four paws when he was just a puppy.

One day owner Nick Rickman took him to work in a wooden box on the back of his pushbike. Slobber enjoyed the journey so much that Nick built him a special fibreglass unit to allow him to ride pillion on his £12,000 motorcycle.

After checking with police that the move was legal, and kitting the Harley loving hound out with a pair of 'doggles' to protect his eyes against flies, the dynamic duo can now often be seen whizzing at 70mph along the roads of Salisbury in Wiltshire.

The barking about biking mutt has clocked up more than 300 miles in the eight years he has been riding with Nick.

And there is nothing the unlikely pair loves better than going out on Sunday road trips together.

"You see people in their cars doing double takes to check if it is really a dog or just a really ugly woman," jokes Nick.

"We always get a wave when people overtake us and I'm sure Slobber raises his paw to say hi".

He added: "There aren't many places I have visited without my favourite riding partner".
