MAN'S CHIN SWELLS TO SIZE OF BASKETBALL

A Chinese man suffers from a rare disease that has caused his chin to swell to the size of a basketball.

Chang Du, 47, of Lishugou village, Luoyang, central China's Henan province, has rarely stepped out of his home in the past five years as he doesn't want to scare others.

Chang suffers from a rare disease that causes his lower jaw to swell, making it very difficult to close his mouth.

According to Chang the giant swelling first started as just a small bump on his chin.

"I found a local herbal medicine practitioner to prescribe me some medications, but after a few days of taking the medication my mouth started to swell up.

"It started with a nail-sized bump and I wanted to rub it down, but it grew bigger and bigger after I rubbed it.

"I didn't go to the hospital due to poverty."

The growth is now the size of a basketball and prevents Chang from communicating or eating normally.

A hospital in Luoyang said Chang's lower jaw must be replaced, which would cost at least 50,000 Yuan.
