Kashmir Apple Growers Face Huge Loses Due To Floods And Highway Blockade
Abdul Gani Balla, 75, a Kashmiri farmer, poses for a picture at his apple orchard that is flooded in Pulwama, South of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on September 15, 2025. Apple growers in Kashmir face heavy losses as recent floods from continuous rainfall damage many orchards during the peak harvest season. The problem worsens with the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which stalls fruit-laden trucks. The combined losses to the apple industry, a major part of the region's economy, are estimated at around Rupees 700 crore. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto) -

A loaded railway parcel van carrying apples is pictured at Budgam Railway Station in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on September 11, 2025. Indian Railways operates a daily parcel train to transport apples from the Kashmir Valley to Delhi, officials say on Thursday. The move brings relief to the horticulture sector in the region. CCTV motorist trap in a London suburb.
A motorist is caught on CCTV in a Low Traffic Neighbourhood in Streatham entering a short link road from a roundabout to another route without realising it is "No Entry" to motor vehicles. The scheme is controversial as there are no clear road surface markings to inform car drivers not to enter thus suggesting a CCTV motorist trap in order to make revenue for Lambeth council and TFL. Much of London's roads have become cluttered with multiple signage confusing the motorist.
Creating LTNs does mean that some people, including some who do not benefit from quieter streets, may have a longer journey when travelling out of the area. In general, streets will be blocked off in such a way that they will be forced to access the outside world via one main road. And therein lies the problem and an opportunity for a council to exploit motorists not familiar with the local area.
