A floppy sun hat with built in solar panels for powering gadgets when hiking or camping, has hit the market.
The Power Hat is said to be capable of charging a flat smartphone to capacity in three to four hours.
The hat has been created by US company EcoFlow which says it captures solar energy from all angles without any blind spots.
At only one-eighth the thickness of conventional solar panels, it's lightweight, thin, and comfortable for extended wear.
It also folds down to fit into a backpack.
The hat’s solar cells are made from a thin, flexible material called passivated emitter and covered with a waterproof silicon.
It offers roughly 12-watt charging via the USB-A and USB-C connectors on the underside of the brim. The whole thing weighs 370 grams.
An EcoFlow spokesperson said: “The hat works well in wet environments like by the sea or lake, and can be used in light rain.
“It is also resistant to sand and dust, splash-proof, and crack-resistant, making it durable and suitable for outdoor use without needing delicate handling.”
The hat, which comes in two head sizes, is available to preorder with shipping expected to start in mid-September for $79 USD
