TRAGIC MARILYN'S FINAL POSSESSIONS UP FOR SALE

A rare sale of Marilyn Monroe's personal possessions will feature a robe purported to be the last item of clothing she wore.

The assembled items include clothing from her personal and professional wardrobe and furniture from her Brentwood, California hacienda style home.

The items offer a rare glimpse into the personal life of the tragic legend who resided in the Brentwood home until her death.

Among over 150 items offered for sale is a white terry cloth robe ($8,000 - 10,000) claimed to be the last item of clothing Monroe wore before her death.

This is also an umbrella Monroe held for an iconic photograph taken by Andre de Dienes in 1949 at Tobey Beach.

Other highlights from Marilyn's Brentwood home include; an orange Pucci blouse ($7,000-9,000), Monroe's dining room table (est. $10,000/12,000), living room coffee table (est. $8,000/10,000), Mexican tile table (est. $500/1,000), set of four living room folding benches (est. $5,000/7,000), Mexican framed mirror (est. $3,000/5,000), and other fine & decorative art pieces.

After Marilyn's death in 1962, her home at 12305 Fifth Helena, Brentwood, CA was purchased via auction by Dr. Gilbert Nunez. On August 5, 1962, Betty Nunez went to the realtor's office to register to view the property. By March of 1963, the Nunez's had thought Marilyn Monroe they had ownership, but a half dozen other realtors had also sold the house and the estate was still in probate.

PETITE PONY PROMPTS 'STUCK IN THE MUD' FEARS

A petite pony has been causing alarm with passers-by because they think she is sinking into the mud.

On four separate occasions emergency services in Southampton have been called out to rescue the 'sinking' Mayflower.

However, the tiny horse - an apparent cross between a Shetland and New Forest pony -isn't in trouble, she simply has very short legs.

Mayflower's favourite grazing spot is on the salt marshes by the River Test and, due to her stumpy physique, from a distance it can look like she is trapped in soft ground.

On four different occasions fire crews have raced to the banks of the river only to find the 2ft 4ins tall Mayflower grazing happily and in no trouble what-so-ever.

Anton Phillips, from the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service's animal rescue team, comments: "This was the fourth time we have been called out by members of the public who have seen this pony on the salt marsh.

"We all inherit characteristics from our mother and father and sometimes something odd happens like this.

"From 200 yards away it does look like the pony is trapped in the mud, especially when it is stood next to New Forest ponies which are about twice as tall.

"It is right for the public to call us if they are concerned and of course we will always...

OUT OF THE DUST - LIFE IN AFGHANISTAN

A powerful collection of images of everyday life in Afghanistan will be displayed for the first time in the UK in a new exhibition this summer.

'Out of the Dust - Life in Afghanistan' features images by Dutch photographer Hans Stakelbeek. The exhibition runs from 30 July-31 August 2008 at PM Gallery in west London.

In 2007 Hans Stakelbeek was commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to document the reconstruction of Afghanistan during the efforts to restore peace and stability to the country.

Stakelbeek made four trips last year, shooting in Kabul and Uruzgan, as well as other remote areas.

As the project developed, he also became interested in capturing the stories of the people he came to know, as well as the reconstruction efforts required by his official posting.

'Out of the Dust' presents a set of images that pays tribute to the determination of the Afghan people to survive and live as normally as possible through the upheaval - building homes, going to school and working and playing in testing and frightening times.

The collection gives a rare view of daily life in Afghanistan without a military slant and each photograph comes complete with Stakelbeek's own written commentary, which reveals the stories within.

Florida Governor Jeb Bush has halted executions in the state as a result of the flawed procedure. President George W Bush has stated that he needs to be sure that lethal injection did not constitute 'cruel and unusual punishment'. Diaz was sentenced to death for the 1979 murder of a Miami strip club manager

The Luggage That Turns Into A Couch
THE LUGGAGE THAT TURNS INTO A COUCH

Flight delayed five hours, all departure lounge seats taken, it's a nightmare many people have to endure.

But hanging around the airport might get a little easier thanks to a luggage set that transforms into a COUCH.

The suitcase collection is composed of three attractive suitcases and one backpack.

But when slotted together they become a trendy sofa on which to while away transport delays.

Dutch designer Erik De Nijs, 24, explains: "The 'suited case' is a project which is inspired by the idea of people waiting during their trip.

"People often go and rest sitting on their suitcases, that is the starting point of this design, so I created a living room couch.

"When a familiar object from home is taken with you on a trip you feel much more at ease.

"And which object is more familiar then your own comfortable couch."

Erik, part of design duo Nieuwe Heren, says he is now looking for a company to bring his design to market.

Veronica Lake (born Constance Frances Marie Ockelman; November 14, 1922[1] - July 7, 1973) was an American film, stage, and television actress. Lake won both popular and critical acclaim for her role in Sullivan's Travels and for femme fatale roles in film noirs with Alan Ladd, during the 1940s. She was also well known for her peek-a-boo hairstyle. Lake's career had begun to decline by the late 1940s, in part due to her alcoholism. She made only one film in the 1950s but appeared in several guest appearance roles on television. She returned to the screen in 1966 with a role in the film Footsteps in the Snow, but the role failed to revitalize her career.

Male Celebs Who Had It And Lost It

MALE CELEBS WHO HAD IT AND LOST IT

They were the hottest celebs in the world...until age came along and snatched it all away. Damn you, time!

Once upon a time their clean cut good looks set a legion of hearts fluttering.

And while their fans are still many, these now matured leading men have very clearly left their boyhood behind.

For most the years have brought movie and music success but a number of unwanted visitors have also tagged along.

Luscious locks are now tinged with grey and a once youthful glow has given way to more rugged looks.

Meanwhile, chiseled jaws and abs have, in some cases, receded behind a little more flesh.

For some the passage of years and the transition from boy to man has more unkind than for others.

Causing some to lose their Hollywood heartthrob status along with their hair.
