Indigenous guides in the Arctic are training Canada's military: 'When they talk, I listen'

Facing new threats to its sovereignty, the country is looking to reaffirm itself as 'an Arctic nation'

In recent years, Canada has realized the deep vulnerabilities of a land mass spanning nearly 4m sq km (1.5m sq miles) that makes up nearly half the country. With renewed threats to its territorial claims coming both from foes and allies, the country's government has pledged to devote far more resources to holding the north.

Canadian Ranger Ryan Lennie prepares to take newly-arrived soldiers out onto the land. Lennie uses gloves make from wolf skin and fur to keep his hands warm in temperatures near -50 celcius.

Cosmetics giant L’Oréal has unveiled a new beauty product to help slow down the signs of skin ageing.
The analysis tool gives users a skin condition breakdown and which products they are likely to be more responsive to all within five minutes.
The devic, called the Cell BioPrint, is the result of a partnership with Korean startup NanoEntek which specialises in chips that can read biofluids.
A user takes a facial tape strip, sticks it on their cheek, and then puts the strip in a buffer solution.
That solution is then inserted into a cartridge for the Cell BioPrint to analyse.
Once that sample is processed, the device takes images of the user’s face as they answer a few short questions about skin concerns and aging.
The gadget then uses the analysis of protein structure and function from the biological sample.
The Cell BioPrint is designed to then determine how well skin is aging before giving advice advice on how to improve its condition and appearance..
It also gives predictions of how responsive the user’s skin may be to certain skincare ingredients.
L’Oréal claims the device can help predict future cosmetic issues before they manifest.

A study into a medical condition from which sufferers see demonic faces in people they meet has created the first accurate and photorealistic visualisations experienced by patients.

The very rare condition is known as prosopometamorphopsia or PMO.

It causes facial features to appear distorted.?
The name comes from a combination of “prosopon” the Greek word for face and “‘metamorphopsia” which refers to perceptual distortions.

Symptoms vary from case to case and can affect the shape, size, colour, and position of facial features while the condition can last days, weeks, or even years.??The new study by a team at the USA’s Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, studied a unique case of a 58-year-old man with PMO,

He reported seeing faces without any distortions when they are viewed on a screen or on paper.

But he said they appear distorted or "demonic" when viewed in-person.
