NEWS - Wahlen Deutschland: Martin Schulz in München
September 14, 2017 - New York City, New York, United States of America - Just ten days before the German national elections, former European Parliament President and SPD party head Martin Schulz appeared at Munich’s famed Marienplatz in an attempt to rally support for what analysts see as a faltering challenge to incumbent Angela Merkel. Schulz has been seen as the source for a resurgence of the previously-faltering SPD (left-wing) party that was previously headed by Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel. However, after a series of regional losses, support appears to have plateaued, with early polls indicating between 36-40% for Merkel and 22-24% for Schulz (source: Welt/N24). The Institute for Demographics in Allensbach has indicated that 46% of voters are still undecided- a statistic the SPD is betting on to try and pull an upset victory (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)
