REPORTAGE - Indien: Safranernte in Kaschmir
November 13, 2017 - India - There are only two or three places in the whole world where saffron grows and Kashmir has the proud privilege of being one of these places. There are two locations in Kashmir where saffron grows and one of these two places is Pampore. Pampore is a small town, which is some 13 km from the summer capital of kashmir (Srinagar). The saffron plant is very small and its flower is the only part which is seen above the ground. The blooming time of this flower is autumn. Saffron has a unique sweet smell. The botanical name of Saffron is Crocus sativus. The purple colored flowers appear just above the ground and are a beautiful sight. The orange stigmas of the saffron plant are harvested as saffron and used as a flavoring and coloring agent in various recipes. Saffron is added to Kahwa - the traditional Saffron Tea drunk by people in Kashmir (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)

NEWS - Sturmtief Ophelia taucht die Landschaft in Orange
London was shrouded in darkness again on the second day of a dust phenomenon caused by Storm Ophelia. Sky-watchers described the atmosphere as "apocalyptic" as disrupted weather systems from the storm tinted the clouds above the capital a dark sepia colour. Pictures taken from the viewing platform on the Shard showed the gloomy clouds blanketing the sprawling city on Tuesday afternoon. One Londoner described the atmosphere across the city as "spooky", and several commented that it was akin to a "partial eclipse".

ME: ODD-COLORED LOBSTERS FOUND IN MAINE
This 2012 image of an unusual-colored lobster is seen here in a handout photo released by the Main State Aquarium (DMR Education Division) in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Lobsters with this kind of coloring are believed to be extremely rare. But sightings like these are becoming more and more common. The crustaceans are usually greenish brown, but in recent years, lobstermen are finding more of them in mutant colors¿orange, blue, white, yellow¿and no one is sure why. Researchers suggest that the frequency of abnormal colors could have been simply underestimated or we are catching more of them overall. Lobsters come in a variety of colors because of genetic variations.
However, they all turn red when they're cooked, except for the white ones.
