A carbon-neutral cruise ship with high-tech sails is set to cruise the waters around the arctic within two years.
French polar expedition startup Selar is building what it calls a “close-to-zero-emissions” sailing vessel specifically for the cold northern seas.
The yet-to-be-named ship is currently under construction in Mauritius and will rely on sun and wind.
It has five masts which are home to solid sails covered in 20,000 square feet / 1,858 square metres of solar panels.
The 70 metre long vessel is configured for up to 36 passengers in 19 cabins.
Its maiden voyage is scheduled for November 2026.
Selar says it will not have set itineraries but instead encourage what the company calls “spontaneous adventures,” dictated by the wildlife and weather conditions met on each journey.

A plan to turn a huge area of desert into a high tech food producing hub that is also a tourist attraction , has been unveiled.
It would see a massive greenhouse-like structure snake through the landscape.
Inside it would be fruits and vegetables grown in optimum conditions making use of recycled water and powered by renewable energy.
The construction would also feature homes, officers, hospital and higher education facilities for the study and development of new indoor farming techniques.
Around the outside of the development would be landscape areas with sports and more leisure facilities
The scheme will develop the world’s largest so-called agritourism destination outside the middle Eastern city of Dubai in the UAE.
It will provide food security and entertainment, whilst also creating more than 10,000 jobs & promoting a green economy.
Called the Agri Hub, it has been created by local design and architectural company URB.
