  • REPORTAGE - Der Tourismus in Ägypten steckt in der Krise

REPORTAGE - Der Tourismus in Ägypten steckt in der Krise
January 22, 2015 - Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt: Kebab restaurant. The area of Sharm el-Sheikh, in the south Egyptian Sinai facing the Red Sea, is one of the major winter holidays destinations for its climate and the beauty of the seabed. Tourism is the major Egyptian economic resource. Unfortunately, fears linked to the threat of terrorist attacks despite the large deployment of security, and the collapse of the Russian currency, are affecting the arrival of Russian tourists that had recently accounted for the majority of visitors. In the near future this could become a major problem for the Egyptian tourism industry, as hotels, resorts and restaurants are almost empty and several new construction projects have been put on hold. Acrobatic Squirrel Munches On Peanut 'Kebab'
Just how many ways are there to eat a kebab? Well, if you're this crafty squirrel the answer is 'many'.

The acrobatic creature went to extreme lengths to gets its paws on some tasty peanuts when he spotted them hanging in a garden in Fareham, Hampshire.

In fact, the persistent grey squirrel was determined not to give up until it had stolen every single treat from the suspended nut 'kebab'.

His dexterity meant it was a case of squirrel 1, homeowner 0.

According to Sue Bellamy, every time she put peanuts out for the birds they were consistently stolen by squirrels.

She says: "As soon as I put the nuts out on the table they where gone. The squirrels just picked them up and off they went.

"Then my husband came up with the kebab idea so I threaded the peanuts onto an old knitting needle and hung them".

However, as Sue is first to admit, her idea hasn't quite worked, with the determined squirrels patiently working out how to get their prize.

She adds: "The squirrels now take ages to work out the best way to eat the kebab".

Saint Tropez in danger of becoming the 'French Ibiza, Saint Tropez, France - Aug 2009
SAINT TROPEZ BATTLES TO BRING BACK THE GLAMOUR

St Tropez's mayor has gone on a glamour offensive over fears that the exclusive resort is being turned into the 'French Ibiza'.

Traditionally the tiny port has been the haunt of the rich, famous and sophisticated.

However, a new breed of tourist has led to an upsurge in tacky souvenirs and vulgar displays.

Up to 100,000 day trippers regularly pack into the small seafront town.

And while super yachts can still be found in its old port and sports cars drive along its roads, there has been another, less welcome, intrusion.

Now tourists come to gawp at the riches around them and snap up t-shirts, shot glasses and even condoms that bear the message 'I Love Saint-Tropez'.
