Kupiansk trembles as Russian forces close in again
Russia's apparent plan is to flatten then reoccupy the Ukrainian city, where the situation has become dramatically worse since the beginning of October.
Russian combat units are now less than two miles from Kupiansk, Ukraine.

In recent weeks, however, the Russians have been advancing. Across the frontline, Ukrainian defences are crumbling at the fastest rate since 2022.

'Free Willy' Trainer To Release Captive Dolphins
Following a dramatic rescue and nearly two years of rehabilitation these bottleneck dolphins have been declared ready for release.

Tom and Misha were rescued by international wildlife charity, Born Free after spending six years in a small, filthy pool in Hisaronu, Turkey.

Marine mammal expert, Jeff Foster and his team have spent 20 months of painstaking rehabilitation to increase the dolphin's levels of fitness and revert them back to a diet of live fish.

The dolphins are now fit and healthy and hunting their own food.

Jeff said: "You can sense that Tom and Misha are ready to go. Our work in preparing them for the chance of life back in the ocean has reached its conclusion.

"When the dolphin's sea pen is finally unzipped they'll be free to leave. I hope they will swim off and don't look back."

Having worked with marine mammals for over four decades, including the rehabilitation of Keiko, the orca star of the film 'Free Willy', Jeff believes that Tom and Misha's journey to freedom could provide a replicable pathway for more dolphins in the future.

In Turkey to help with final preparations for the release, Programme Director for the Born Free Foundation said: "This has been a long journey for all involved. Waving Tom and Misha off will be a high point in my 20 years working for animals."

When asked for the official date of the dolphins release Born Free's spokesperson, Kate Chapman said: "I'm afraid we don't have a definitive date for the release of the dolphins as the project is top secret, but it is imminent."

Tom and Misha will have satellite tags fitted at the time of their release and their progress will be tracked by the Rehabilitation team.

Leap Of Faith: Dolphins To Be Released Back Into Wild After Years Of Captivity
These two bottleneck dolphins look ready to leap back into the wild as they prepare for a new life in the ocean after years of captivity.

Tom and Misha were rescued from the brink of death in September 2010 and are now entering their final but crucial stages of rehabilitation.

The dolphins are on schedule for release back into the Aegean Sea in late spring.

Born Free and the Turkish NGO Underwater Research Society rescued Tom and Misha from a squalid pool in the tourist town of Hisaronu (South West Turkey) after a major campaign against their incarceration in the summer of 2010.

During their long period in captivity, Tom and Misha lost the ability to catch and eat live fish. They had become so reliant on their keepers that when they first came to the rehabilitation centre they refused to eat fish unless it was put directly into their mouths. But after months of expert husbandry and conditioning, Tom and Misha are once again catching and eating live fish.

The dedicated international rehabilitation team, headed by US cetacean expert, Jeff Foster, who worked on the rehabilitation and release programmes for the orcas (killer whales) Keiko and Springer.

Some of the techniques adopted by the team were first tested during the rehabilitation of the orca Keiko; star of the Hollywood hit 'Free Willy'.

Jeff recalled: "We 'cut our teeth' on Keiko, which was a hugely expensive and ambitious project. We learned from that experience and this enabled us to go on and successfully release Springer, another orca."

He added: "Tom and Misha are different again, not only because they are a different species but because they have spent ye...
